Can anyone help to sex my severums. I have 2 greens and 2 gold, need to tell male and female. Are they easy to breed. Any help would be appreciated. thanks lee :?

male severums have the stripes /patterns on their cheeks, females do not or it is greatly reduced.
the female will get a baby belly and her egg shoot (ovipositor) will protrude more as she gets ready to spawn, they clean an area etc.

Breeding can apparently be a lot of dramas with the males being infertile, mine seem ok.

He does tend to be an assjhole and beat her up however especially after they spawn, about 6 hours later he goes and eats all the eggs!,

if i dont save em they disapear very quickly, i have had trouble with keeping th eggs alive however, usually i get about 1/4 of them to the just hatched stage, then end up with only a few within a few days..if any survive..

good luck

well mine were like that when they first started but after a few spawns they got the hang of it and i ended up just leaving the eggs in with the parents and even after they hatched....

one thing that can take the males mind of lookin at the eggs as food is if you were to have some dither fish  in with them.... by this i mean just some other fish that the male sev will think of as a threat and nature will kick i9n and he will defend the eggs rather than eat them...
