G'Day gang,
Is there anyone out there that has successfully bred  Corydoras Julii ?.
I have six in my community tank & I was watching them the other night & they began to spawn, of coarse the tetras & others followed behind & picked the eggs up imediatley.
Would anyone be able to tell me what sise breeding tank would be appropriate & whether to put all six in together or try to get a trio?
I will recreate the water conditions of 27 deg C & Ph of 6.8 & go from there but some first hand experience would be great.   [/i]

are you sure they are C.julii? or are they C.trilineatus?

Clarkii

As certain as I can be Likesfish, I have had C.trilineatus before & the fish I have now are not the same & the photo's on the net for the species are identical to the fish I have so I think they are the real deal. :D .

Based on my experience, it doesn't matter how many you have together. You probably have more of a chance if you have 2 of both sexes. Many types of the same spps should have a synchronised spawn. The ones which i've spawned have pretty much gone off together. Imagine, getting spawns of 150 sterbae eggs with about 80% fertility. I've had to actually leave the eggs to their own outcome, since i've already too many fry to add more to. So it works for me. The challenge you should set yourself, is to buy the more difficult cories to spawn. You'll find that they take a bit of effort to condition not to mention time. I think that's why so many people give up on them. I can say, i was one until i noticed results!!

Thanks likesfish,
I'll move them out to the fishroom & put them into a 3x18x18 that I have used in the past to breed Angels & Blue Rams, the tank is bare apart from the two sponge filters and the broken pots the rams used to spawn on.
Do think I should add some live white worms to their diet to get them into tip top condition?.Also would you remove the parents if I can get them to spawn again or carefully remove the eggs?.

whiteworms are excellent food for condtioning. It's up to you whether you chose to remove eggs or parents. If you have an alternate tank i'd move the parents. It's certaining much simpler to shift adult fish than trying to do eggs. It's ok if the cories have actually spawned on media that you can take out but, if they have spawned on the side of the glass, shifting the parents is your better choice. I'm surprised their aren't any other people who have had experienced unusal facts with cories. Maybe use a spawning mop!!

Would newly hatched brine shrimp be a good food if I am lucky enough to get a successfull spawn & hatch?, do you use anything special when raising the sterbae fry?. :?: .

Yep, baby B/s is fine. Check up planetcatfish for more suggestions
