Pleco Tank Size

I have a gold pleco (can't identify further than that sorry) who's getting to be a nice size now and I want to move him into the loungeroom display tank which is a 4 1/2 x 2 x 2. He was previously in a 7 x 2 x 2 and he's happy there but I dont get to see him enough. Would the smaller tank be OK for him(or her?)? If not then I can keep him in the current tank but It'd be nice to have him in the lounge.

It will be ok but will grow out of that tank in the end.

I think you should think of the well being of the plec first. The majority of plecs are nocturnal don't forget!
