Just wondering the thoughts of multiple American pairs to a tank. I got a pair of Greeen Sevs that spawned once about 2 weeks ago but the spawn site was disturbed so no babies. They are in a 4ftx2ftx18in tank and pretty much hide away. I'm thinking about adding an unconfirmed pair of Parrot cichlids I've got to see if either or both get going but not keen to be losing fry to each other.

I've got another unconfirmed pair of Gold Sev's that I'm gonna move from a 4ftx2.5ftx2ft tank to a 4ftx2ftx18in tank once the fish in that 1 go as I want to use the 4x2.5x2 as a fry growout tank. However am thinking of adding a confirmed pair of Parrot cichlids as above with the Green Sev's but just wondering whether it's feasible.

Any advice or info much appreciated.
Cheers,
Bryce.

I've kept Parrots and Severums before, not in a breeding situation though. Both are reasonably peacefull when not breeding, though the rules change when breeding commences with most cichlids.

I would also keep a close eye on them when putting them together in case they dont like each other, Americans can get nasty.
I would introduce both pairs at the same time so they can sort out their territories.

I would probably give it a go but you would have to pull the fry early, if they breed, with 2 pairs in there.

they should be right together but i do not know if that tank would be big anothe for each other cause one pair might try and spread their terratory but like theo said give it a try

Thanks for the replies fellas. Unfortunately the Green Sevs have been in their tank for about 2-3 weeks so the Parrots will need to get their own territory which shouldn't be a drama as the female Sev has taken over 1 pot and the male not really roaming from his spot too much.

I think I'm gonna need to give it a go as my Rivulatus Gold Saum have just spawned for the 1st time, about 100-200 fry and am needing to remove the parents to a different tank, the tank the Parrots are in currently. Only problem then will be if the Sevs or the Parrots spawn and having to find a tank for their fry.

Thanks again.

Bryce.

when you are putting in the parrots you should remove all terrortories and level it all out and set up again but differently so they can get new terrortories.
do not know why you should take out the rivulatas parents for but.

The Rivulatus are in a 2ftx2ftx18in tank and with about 200 fry I can see things going pear shaped in the not too distant future hence the need to remove the parents in about a week or so. The tanks aren't on system hence the need to move the parents 1st until the fry grow a bit as well which creates a bit of drama.

Once I get the fish in the 4ftx2ftx18in tank cleared out I will be able to move the Gold Sevs into it and then move the Rivulatus fry into the 4ftx2.5ftx2ft tank so they can grow in that. Thats the other reason I want to put the 2 Parrot pairs in with the Sevs that way I'll have 2 2x2x18 tanks for growing out until the various fry get to a size that they can go in the 4x2.5x2.

Still unsure as I might sell a pair of Parrots and maybe my Rainbow pair and that'll give me 1 2x2x18 and 1 4x12x15 corner tank. It would be good to have the tank I am waiting for and all on a system which would make things so much easier but until we get a whole lot more rain and my money tree recovers I just gotta make do with what I got lol.

I had to move over 1 of the Parrot pairs last night to make way for some Jewel cichlid fry that the missus now has so all going well they should spur each other on hopefully. Here's to hoping, thanks again fellas.

Hi,

I've got 3 sevs , 8parrots, &3 blue eyes in an 8ft The sevs just layed for the 2nd time but the blue eyes have fry & moved sev parents so their fry could eat the eggs. But the parrots were good they dont bother any1. So you should be ok to mix parrots & sevs.
