I found this article on another site and thought it'd be helpful:

Given that the auctions usually start late afternoon and sometimes go well past midnight, knowing how to correctly bag your stock is imperative to both buyer and seller. I've seen many casualties of some real nice looking fish at some auctions, and they could've be prevented with a bit of know-how.

very good xu1

being involved with a lot of auctions you get to see some shockers and hopefully some ppl taking fish to any auction or even selling/buying fish from joe bloggs will learn to bag fish right.
ive seen some bag at auctions that have gone flat and its just not fair on the fish or the ppl that are buying your fish..
that link is probably a little over the top but it is the right way of doing it, i have a version of it thats not so complicated.

anyway good one.

That's a good link. Not being involved in fish for long it was a good read. Its good to know I should get 1 of the basics right from now on.

o harm in asking.

Just a warning; check the ph of the water, when you take fish home. The ph of the water can/will crash, when fish have been in the bags a while.

also, not that they come up alot, but i got two 5cm mangrove jacks from the bris auction and not even thinking that they would have been in brackish water went to do the usual,
open the bag, roll the top over and float in the tank for 20 min adding a little of the tank water in bit by bit, was when i noticed that there was salt in the water in the bag.
a quick hardness test of the bag water gave me an idea of how much salt to add to the tank... and all was well!!

pays to be observant.
