Hi everyone

I've got my first fish Saulosi with eggs in her mouth. just wandering to know what I have to do to make fry grow when she spits them out.
What is the best tank size.
what sort of filter is best.
what is the best food to feed them.
Do i put anything in bottom of tank.
What percentage of water changes do i do. weekly
Do i put salt in tank and if so how much and how often.
and anything out I need to know would be appreciated.
If anyone can help, still learning and don't want to kill fry.

thanks Lee

lee,

if your going to let her go full term, ie keep them in her mouth till they are free swimming you will be better of getting her into her own 2 footer because as soon as she does spit them all the other fish in the tank willm eat them. once they are free swimming and not relying on mum you can take her out and put back in to the main tank.

filters,
you wont need anything with a to stronger current, as in power head, just a box or sponge filter will do.

food,
theres plenty of fry fish food on the market but i just grind up flake and pellet food into a powder and just a pinch of that two time a day.

bottom of tank,
no you will find it better to leave the tank gravel free as its easier the syphon out all the uneaten food every few days.

water changes,
if you dont go over board with the feeding  and you syphon two times a week, once a week do a third change.

salt,
no salt.

no matter how hard you try you are still going to lose a few, its what ya get for trying to play mother nature..

good luck.

I just do 10% change daily.Filter is just a sponge filter of the air hose in a bare bottom tank.I dont know about africans but i kick my fry off on liquid fry food & then crushed pellets & blood worm.
Hope it helps Brian.
o harm in asking.

hi lee,
i agree with wayne,
only other thing i do is 1-2 mystery snails
in the tank. helps clean up that extra food
off the bottom.
