how often should i be regenerating my Purigen, currently i am using 2 * 100ml bags on a 600 litre tank, within a month they are a realy dirty brown/black colour and need to be soaked in the bleach solution to regenerate them back to the original sandy colour. Is this the life span i should be expecting from them or should they last longer with out needing to be soaked.

How often do you generate yours.

Thanks
Chris

I have 2 of them in my 4x2x2 which is about 400 litres, and would only regenerate every 6 months, It all depends on the load you are putting on them, as they do mop up excess ammonia, nitrites and nitrates if you are over feeding or not doing water changes alot they will be working alot harder and will need to be regenerated alot quicker.

If thats not the case, check you dont have a body under a rock somewhere, and possibly consider some more filtration on the tank.

As far as purigen life cycle im not really sure, I have regenerated mine maybe 5 or 6 times and its still going strong, I would imagine I would get another 20 out of them without a problem, either way in my case thats 10 years and pretty good.

An email from the team at Seachem stated that Purigen can be recharged 7-8 times before it is exhausted.

The lifespan will also be dependent on the organic load in each individual
tank.

Remember do not use amine based dechlorinators when regenerating.

If you have wood leaching tanins into your water it will need regenerating much quicker. I had to regenerate mine (1L in a 1000L tank) After 4 days initially and then every 45-60 days but that is all because of the tanins
