>I have a baby mj, and am trying to get him to eat. I try cichlid floaters, tropical sinkers, local sinkers and dried shrimp as well as blood worms. The little tyke just turns his nose up after sniffing them. Is he gonna starve to death?! Im just going to wait until he eats some. Like watching grass grow! Edited by: humpyhead at: 6/7/05 17:24<

You could allways force some pellets down the mouth of the feeder''s.. (joke) But i have herd of ppl getting small bamboo like squer Then putting like small or baby white bait or dead baby prawn''s on it and makeing it look like its swimming they get used to the smell and taste of the new food and then when you drop it in they will start to eat it i mean it''s no pellets but its half way there. As i no i used to have Pbass and other tank busters live food is not the cheapst thing to feed them... Or aparently you get the new food and put it in  a small slip stream in the tank to make it look like its alive but i like the bamboo bit better ...lol..<

>Tim. Im in the northern suberbs you can email me  jet_li_69@hotmail.com

i just bought a little jack which was the same, i gave up as i feed my bigger fish whitebait and prawns and a few other treats so if thats no drama for you just get some good quality prawns or whitebait and
eak it up into little bitesize flakes he can get down, he wont need much at all at that size and will grow nice and quick

soak the pellets in raw fish juice.<
>They usually get the idea before they starve. Good to have pellets for standby but you need fresh fish IMHO. Live crab seems to cause a certain......  excitement<

Has anyone thought of soaking them in water with a bit of aniseed oil. It is illegal to use aniseed oil in burley for fishing in queensland because it works so well.<
>Just an idea.<
>Maybe someone can give it a try and let me know how it goes.<
>Swarve, this kind of thing is usually right up your alley.  <

Too busy working and breeding fish!!!!!!!

I have weaned my Datnoides onto home made frozen food.  It took awhile, but he now eats it with gusto.  When I got him, he had only ever been fed on live feeders.  I did likewise until it sent me
oke.  Then I weaned him onto whitebait by being pateint, starving him for up to a week and persistance.  Once he was on the dead food for a while, he started striking the frozen food I give the others.  Eventually, he stopped spitting it out after.  Lately, he has even struck at large pellets, but always spits those out.  Eventually, he might take them...

Seachem make some products called Entice and GarlicGuard in with you soak food in. I have tried the GarlicGuard with finicky Discus eaters and it seems to get them going! Cheers!

Is it eating pellets yet??? I have a similar problem - i bought a 35cm saratoga from a farm and have had it for 3weeks now. IT wont eat pellets too! Let me kno how you go.<
