Hey, so the title is pretty self explanatory... are Bichirs Legal to keep and sell in Queensland? can anyone give me a concrete answer on this?

yes they are, just for some damn reason DAMNED expensive, cheapest I've seen is around the three hundred mark, up to eight hundred, but international I've seen as low as $30,   , pity I'de like one myself

I think they are expensive because not many people have the patience to breed them, they are  hard to find and take a long time to grow to breedable size. i had two  senegalus a few years ago that i only held onto for a few weeks. I'd had crazy aspirations to try and breed them but came to my senses and sold them on for what i got them for. would love to see them now. they are absoloutely fascinating fish.

Not true unfourtunatley, as I said they are availible international at VERY agreeable prices for such a nice fish, and as such the cost of importing such fish shouldn't overly complicate the matter (assuming they are legal to import, it is possible they may only be legal to sell australian bred offspring).

Unfortunately bichirs are not on the import list, so any fish that come up for sale, had to swim a long way.

Expains the asking price eh !!!

There are a few in the hands of serious breeders, so we may see a few more on the market in the near future.

so any fish that is here already is legal to keep, breed and sell, but the fact that there are very few here means they are still expensive. anyone who actually has them and can breed them will have the market to themselves. i think once the ball starts rolling they will become cheaper but untill there are decent numbers they are still going to be pricey.

There are a few for sale atm & some at very good prices if you look around.
Cheers Brian.
o harm in asking.

Wetpetz has some on the lower end of the scale I've seen but still well over $100, as a parent and student way more than I could justify to the missus on a fish (doubly so on one thats not for her)

Andrew

PS If anyone know's of any at around (yeah not likely, but possible) one hundredish, let me know
