What has happened to all the small plecos that flooded in last year when L168 was added to the allowable import list ???

There were a stack of L104's (????) that every one was whinging about were not L168's.

Has any one bred any ????

L168's are now imported regularly and good size fish can be had for $30 to $50.   But L104 is no longer comming in.   We had better get our act together and start breeding these fish locally or they will just be another memory in a few years time.

Does any one have any L104's that they no longer love ???   I have room for a half dozen if there are any looking for a home.

There is one known L104 spawning (reported on plecofanatics and plecoforum) and several for 168.

L104's are advertised now and again usually about $60ea

All you catfish nuts join plecoforum.com

:D

If all the catfish fanatics had stayed with Auscat, the oldest catfish forum in Aus with the bigest archive of breeding info and pics !!!

Never mind... Was not the L168's I was interested in.  Quite a few breedings recorded of that species.

I was more interested in any one's experience with the L104's that came in at the time.

OR<<the fish I have that resemble L104..??? These fish have been here for ten months now and hardly grown an inch.  I can't see them growing to 10cm SL.  Thery are just 6 - 7 cm now and have hardly grown in ten months.

Showing sexual dimorphism

Ugly bloody things

L103 possibly ???

Alan,
I was lucky enough to pick up 4xL168's and 3xL104's around November last year I think it was although may hyave been later I can't remember(how good is it to have a fish loving wife?). All of them were around the 6-7cm mark and have found that the L168's have grown around 1/2 cm and the L104's haven't grown at all. I've heard similar stories as to yours about very little or no growth.

So I'm thinking 1 of 2 things. Either they are L103's which doesn't worry me much as it's still 1 more pleco species that I had before I got them or they are extremely slow growers as they remain relatively small in size for their life span. Although I could be way off the mark which isn't rare lol.
Cheers,
Bryce.

Hi Bryce

103 are Pekoltias and like a little meat,,,,104 are panaque and eat wood like buzz saws!!!    My fish are in a bit of a mixed tank atm, so a bit of everything goes in there for food....Going by their outline , I don't think they are starving.

I don't particularly like communities for breeding, but if it happens

Would much rather know what I am suposed to be doing and not rely on chance.

Alan.

L104 and L168 have both been bred now alan!

Send me a PM if you want some triggers for the L104!

Alan,
Mine have only just been put into the 1 tank to grow out but seperated by a divider, finally after being stuck in the 1 undivided tank since I got them.

At this stage I haven't been trying much with them as they are only small but 1 of them has taken up residence in a bn spawning log. I think it's a male as there seems to be little subtle changes of colour over it's rear half when the light is shone from different angles so I'm thinking it's starting to show some hair. It likes to block off the log about halfway down although it's not big enough to do it completely and sometimes it even looks like it's fanning so I'm hoping it's in practice lol.

Jamos,
Be keen to know some of the triggers as hopefully they'll spend summer in their very own pond or something similar although I think they are a ways of being breeding size.
Cheers,
Bryce.
