Ok, time for some butt kissing . . .
In reference to a previous post it was hinted in that thread a previous forum moderator would have deleted any abusive posts immediately.

Can I just say I think the current QLD Cichlid Forum is extremely well run. Lets remember a forum's aim is to have friendly and open discussion as well as a medium to ask questions and provide knowledge. In this instance, the aggrieved party had a piece to say, the defendant was allowed to respond, everyone can still have a look at the topic, and now the topic is closed off before it gets too nasty - very well handled I thought.

Lately I've been on another net forum for home theatre and television (researching a new TV), and it is ruthless - lots of abuse flying around, people go off topic almost every post, disagreements turn into open war on the net. Minimal moderation whatsoever and basically the result is a much less friendly environment and with not much useful info being distributed.

The moderators on this forum are quick to respond to any aggressive behaviour, but at the same time also allow every opportunity for people to have their say. Just as importantly, moderators keep people focused on the topic posted.

So lets all be thankful this forum is a bit more professional.

Absolutely agreed thought the whole thing was handled by the mods very well and both sides were given a fair go I have been attacked on other forums but was not given a fair go to reply or when I have replied was warned so well done qld cichlid.

here fishie fishie

I will tell a little story,

 Once upon a time recently a guy with powers abused a lfs, then had a dig at the industry{lfs in general} as well. He was rebutted with facts, showing the original post & attempt at salvage to be useless dribble. Similar in style to the post now in question. Funny thing is that post just disappeared.    {Another ex mod used to great at that game.}
I asked a mod about the post as did the lfs owner in question, & why was  it was deleted? The reply was, enough was said & "we" thought it best to delete.
Now others that only read the first part might of formed the views that the first poster was right. There is an evil lfs owner & all other lfs are lucky to exist 8O
Most forum members wouldn't of had time to see the reply on that topic.
That is one reason, for why I made the comment I did, {thanks for asking GTR :P {only joking}  :lol:}
As your saw in the sd's post, note all the first lot of replies, oh you poor bastard, what a villan the seller was.
The next reply was of course in defence & done quite well.  8) Now that the post is left up we can all make our own minds. Bit hard but when we are relying on 2 peoples stories.{3 sides to every story.}

One good lesson came from it though. If you are buying something, take responbilities of your own actions, put some thought into your buying process.

Frenchy - I believe there were only about 10 replys (and these wern't all unique posters) with ~ 500 views. As you can calculate (assuming people clicked a few times) - it was a pretty poor conversion rate. Now if you were like me, you would have

a) Seen the multiple posts - here and the classifieds.
b) seen how long Thomas had been around on this forum (and others I frequent
c) See the apparent culprit named in the topic heading
d) Read the rebuttal on drumcrack (sorry better to say this then have the filter pick it up...

The list can obviously go on, but I feel most of our members had worked out what was going on here....It was unlike XXXXXXX's (i'm assuming this is what you were referring to) where he was clear and concise, provided a strong argument [as you can see in the questions I asked in sd's original topic] and provided plenty of info. Additionally he had spoken to other people and there were multiple parties involved. I believe the topic was removed because the right decision was made.

As you can see, in the locked topic - I request further info and suggested someways to go about fixing his problem. I spent (well it appears I wasted) my time and was prepared to spend further time.

I am yet to recieve a PM or reply (I have even pm'd him to ask if he has read the post)

Libel is a "dodgy" topic and one yet [in the context of the internet] to really give a clear idea of what is pushing the boundaries. Sure go ahead and post something if you have strong evidence to back it up - I have regarding dirty tnaks with dead fish and dyed dieing fungused fish. In some cases this has been removed others it has been left alone.

Anyway, time to stop blabbing.

Mitch did you really expect me to reply to your post or your PM

You repeatedly called me an idiot in one post telling me i had no idea what i was talking about.

[quote:948d05bb4e]sd = idiot - he bought something that had problems. He may have or not be informed but it's his choice to do some research/ask questions. This is just like used cars, people buy a lemon and then want it replaced YET they didn't do a RACQ test.
sd = idiot - he bought something that was fine and he broke it and doesn't know how to fix it. Once again a used car analogy - he bought it, forgot to insure it, crashed it and then want's his money back.

I suggest you (sd) contact the police or a laywer if you wish to continue with these claims as to me (and i'm a assuming others) this just looks like public slander which is not warranted.[/quote:948d05bb4e]

Then turned around into this little friendly Leprechaun that wanted to drive me to Bunnings and let me borrow his saw.

[quote:948d05bb4e]As you can see, I have gone to the effort (time !!!) to help you. I would like you to gether as much information on the sytstem so we can sort out the bugs.

Additionally, I see you live nearby. I'm heading out to Oxley Bunnings sometime this week, so if you are interested in can drop in. Additionally if you need some timber cut I have an under-used Triton workcentre that I got for my Birthday this time last year (some people have great girlfriends).[/quote:948d05bb4e]

Give me a break mate you had ago about a number of things which i didn't clearly state in my first post.

Like the head height of the pump.. I drained the tank from the middle shelf into 2 green 60L bins under the tank head height had nothing to do with it....

The plumbing under the tank was 1 metre long with 8-10 peices of pipe connected..

The system was drilled into the bottom of the tank making the pipes under the tank so i didn't see it when i purchased it..

I know everyone has had problems with water leaking mate the point of the leaking water was the wood soaking the water up....

I didn't reply because i had said my bit Thomas said his bit i left it at that by no means did i agree with half the things he said i'm sure he doesn't agree with some of the things i said but i didn't say any more untill you put me down as some idiot that you've gone to the trouble to try and help...

As for people being around a long time i was here when the old forum was up then they changed everything around names got changed i re registered in different account but have changed internet providers been away lost passwords therefore changed accounts...

Mate you basically mocked me presumed a lot of things that you had no idea about then you turned around saying you want to lend me saws and did i know bunnings was down the road... give me a break mate....

What did u expect me to reply back yeah sure lets go for coffee as well????

People were entitled to their own opinions i agree with that but don't state your opinion then completly turn around then get offended when people don't reply to your PM mate you're just kidding yourself.....

nick

why are you getting all upset, he oppologised and said wat he said was rough, u dont need to keep carrying on about it, it is realy immature, its been and gone and u dont need to kepp going on about it.....thats just my opinion but......
eeping fish isnt just a hobby...............

its an obsession!!

sd

Yeah nick for sure i understand mate and i'll probably cop a lot more flack about it as people here work with who they know...

I wasn't going to say any more about it untill Mitch stated this

[quote:074d506338] I request further info and suggested someways to go about fixing his problem. I spent (well it appears I wasted) my time and was prepared to spend further time.

making me out to be some ungreatful person because he had gone to all the trouble of trying to help me.... after he repeatedly called me an idiot...

wasn't a matter of being immature it was just a matte of me not sitting there and going yeah i was really ungratefull not to PM him back....

Forums are generally run by people who know each other or have been posting for a long time...

People should be able to state bad experiances and of course if they are like me relatively unknown then yes they will cop the flack and i'm happy to do that... and i'm sure i will cop more down the track this will be the last thing i post about this.....

nick

well, yeah i can see where you are coming from too.....there is alot of different peoples sides to this........

>Mitch did you really expect me to reply to your post or your PM

Yes. You could have at least said too piss off.

>telling me i had no idea what i was talking about.

I didn't say you had no idea what you were talking about, I just asked for information so we could track down the problem. Obviously you have all the answers already.

>Then turned around into this little friendly Leprechaun that wanted to >drive me to Bunnings and let me borrow his saw.

Yeah, I'm a nice guy. I didn't offer to drive you to Bunnings (notice I said drop in) I said I was going to Bunnings and from a previous profile of yours I saw that you lived in Chelmer which was on the way. I was in fact suggesting that I stop in so I can get an idea of the problem

>Give me a break mate you had ago about a number of things which i >didn't clearly state in my first post.

I case you don't realise there was subtly regarding my order of posts. I felt you went the wrong way about you accussation - didn't ask for help before.... So I thought I would call you an idiot before I knew the whole story.

>Like the head height of the pump.. I drained the tank from the middle >shelf into 2 green 60L bins under the tank head height had nothing to do >with it....

Wasn't the pump NOT producing the expected turnover? Additionally draining is dependent on the size of the hole. I also beleieve that you didn't have all the tanks on the system. Have a little think about that.

>The system was drilled into the bottom of the tank making the pipes >under the tank so i didn't see it when i purchased it..

Fair enough ? So there was some magic silicone around the bulkhead fittings keeping everything leaky free.

>I know everyone has had problems with water leaking mate the point of >the leaking water was the wood soaking the water up....

Wood is porous. What did you expect it to do. As I said I have not experienced bowing before only slight expansion and mould. I wanted to know where it was bowed because I seems funny that it happened so quickly.

>untill you put me down as some idiot that you've gone to the trouble to
>try and help...

Remeber the order of my posts.

>As for people being around a long time i was here when the old forum >was up then they changed everything around names got changed i re >registered in different account but have changed internet providers been >away lost passwords therefore changed accounts...

That's fine. I wasn't trying to get into a I've been here longer then me argument, I was just noting that Thomas has been fairly active.

>Mate you basically mocked me presumed a lot of things that you had no >idea about

I mock people all the time, it's just how I deal with people who start the story at the end and leave out the plot. You gave us no evidenece that you knew what you were talking about. Most of your observations were about what was wrong, how were we meant to try and help you without some explainations.

>What did u expect me to reply back yeah sure lets go for coffee as well

Only if you are that was inclined.

>you're just kidding yourself.....

I know, but there was a point to my argument

>as people here work with who they know...

I do have never met Thomas, and I have never bought anything from Thomas, just to make that clear.

>making me out to be some ungreatful person because he had gone to all >the trouble of trying to help me.... after he repeatedly called me an >idiot...

It wasn't for the benefit of myself, it was to maybe get some input from others who have some idea about the plumbing side of things, the wood side of things and the system side of things. Thomas appeared to hit the nail on the head. This is a community and people tend to like to help other out. If you didn't want my help, fine, but there are plenty of others.  You are an idiot.

>ungratefull not to PM him back....

I didn't say you were ungreatful, sorry if it came across like that. I was only pointing out that you did not appear to be too concerned with the problems you have.

>Forums are generally run by people who know each other or have been >posting for a long time...

Do I have to reply to this one?

>People should be able to state bad experiances and of course if they are >like me relatively unknown then yes they will cop the flack and i'm happy >to do that...

It's nothing about being relatively unknown. If you have a strong argument, significant evidence, and seem to know WHERE the problem lays - not just broadly describing the end result, you will not cop flack.

Uh oh, sorry mods.

Why don't you blokes PM each other?  :?

braddo

This was supposed to be apost on congratualating the mods on the job there doing not to start the whole crap up again. As for the been here a long time I haveonly met one mod face to face (grummundi) so don't go there. Forums are places for people to discuss problems and try and help work em out. Ok human nature dictates through frustration and anger(bit of bad luck that) I have never bought of coryfan but have sold him fish but never met face to face. as with yu sd. I do relise you had a prob all has been said both parties have had a say and third party has been invovlved. Lets stop the rebutle and get on with tryin to solve the problem.I have tons of stands in the past made out of non structural pine with no problems(until the ruddy termites took em out) as I have found this week steel is not expensive even galvanised so that is what I would rather use. Pumps are governed by the outlet pipe not water flow on the pump, I have had an 8000l/h pump hardly push water to 3 tanks let alone the 30 it was supposed to feed I then replaced the line from 20 mil to 40 mil and what do you know the 8000l/h pump fed all 30 tanks and more.
So it may not be the pump but the oulet size. Leeks happen that is part of the fun of keeeping fish. But it is a major pain when it is on carpet or good flooring(lesson learnt). This is not an attack on yousd or nick or coryfan but Ihope this info helps. So lets stop the arguing and get on with fishkeeping.
