my pair of jewel cichlids attacked and killed 4 maybe 5 of my 7cm bn, and the 5th one it in a new tank atm, half dead, im starting to have second thoughts about putting them in with my electric yellows, they are realy agressive, all the fins on the bn are gone and i see them picking at the dead ones.......would it be a good idea to not put them in with yellows??

thnx in advance,
nick

mate, jewels are some of the most aggressive fish you will find.  I think that you have answered you own question there..... I cant beleive your still considering putting them with the yellows

BUT.... look on the bright side,
....they may be about to spawn....  :D
try leaving them on their own for awhile,
but make sure the male doesn't beat the female up too much.

I have a pair of male jewels that share a tank with a variety of fish, including E.yellows. I've had no problems with them at all, ever. they would have to be the most docile fish I have! I guessing that this aggresive behaviour is due to you having a mating pair. I would suggest that if you want a community tank, lose the female and get another male, or vice versa. Short of that, put something in that will give as good as it gets, because the E.yellows tend to be pretty mild mannered. Something like an auratus or johanni aren't easily bullied. You'd want to make sure that you have plenty of hiding places/caves if you go that way.

Otherwise, it looks as though you have to keep them on their own.
mmm, something..........

thnx davo for the info, i think i will keep them on there own, or i might be forced to sell them cause they cant stay in a 2foot tank for much longer, and i dont wanna risk putting them with the yellows
