Hi all,
Not as hot a topic as has been going on over the weekend  :D  and no I haven't googled yet  :D  but I'm looking for some advice/tips for sexing pindanni's.

I have 10 juveniles (~7-8cm) with a girl holding as of yesterday.  Looking at the definite girl and the actions of some of the other fish, I have noticed that the boys seem to have more than one egg spot whilst the girls only have the one.  Obviously, the dominant male is easy to pick out, but what appear to be the sub-dom males also have multiple egg spots.  Can it be this simple or is there something else to look out for.  Of the 10, 5 have a single egg spot whilst the other 5 all have more than 1.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Generaly the boys will have atleast 2 or more egg spots and the girls will not have anymore than 2 most of the time 1/2 - 1 1/2 spots

Thanks mate.  I did notice the one and half egg spot thing on a couple of them but counted them as blokes.  If that's the case then I definitely have more girls than boys.
Thanks for the advice.

yep, I have two large males which have around 6 egg spots each on  there anal fins.  I don't think my females have any egg spots?

Also, the male dorsal and anal fins get larger and pointy like most male africans.

Hi Nielm -

This site: http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/Fishindx/socolofi.htm

suggests that:

males have larger egg-spots and longer ventral fins.

I had a closer look at my 10 and there is only one with more than two egg spots - and it's a sub-dom male.  The dominant male (I am assuming it's the dominant male based on the way it's coloured up) only has two.  I guess that what this means is that they still have a fair bit of developing to do.
Thanks to everyone for their advice.
