A very good article<

Actually, its pretty ordinary.....<
><
>Firstly he uses a pump to pump the water out of the tank and into the sump and then another pump to pump it back out....pretty inefficient. What if the pump in the sump died and the one in the tank kept going....a big mess.<
><
>Secondly the bacteria in the filter media is far more efficient if not fully submersed beneath the water level (the bacteria requires oxygen to survive)- thats why in most sumps the water only trickles over the media but the media is actually above the water level. In this design all of the filter media is submersed, so its not as efficient as it could be.<

Mick,<
>I think I read the article different. It looks to me as if the sump automatically flows back into the tank.<
>The outlet of the sump seems to be plumbed to flow back in by itself just about the top of the tank, therefore only one pump.<
>Great article and a nice twist on sumps.<
>Thanks Dave. A great read.<

Ahh, yes sorry Phil i did. <

>It still doesnt get around the fact that as a biological filter it is pretty inefficient. It is just a slightly different spin on an overhead trickle filter, except it is less efficient.<
><
>A much simpler and more efficient type of this filter would be.......<

Another very good article Mick.<
>I guess I was impressed by the way the filter was positioned behind the tank and out of sight.<
>With a few mods I''m sure you could make it more efficent.<
>Thinking about an overhead trickle for a display tank I want to set up.<
>Thanks Mick that article will help.<
