Tough way to learn a lesson. I wonder how many others will read this and still have the same thng happen to them? Spooked fish can smash closed lids so perhaps some thicker lids or weighted down with sandbags if your fish are flighty? I keep one end of the tank covered so Fronts cant see out that side or get sudden surprises. I also have some bigger fish species and all my lids are 10mm. They thick lids get tiresome to move so I drill a 40mm feeding hole in some.

Dead Fish Floating

had big problems with jacks smashing lids trying to eat roaches crawling over them before.
Moved on to eggcrate as lets the heat get out a bit and is light as.

Most Fronty's I have seen are skittish and usually the first thing they do is go straight up (or sideways until they hit the end of the tank and then up)
Sorry about the fish... its hard watching a nice big fish come out of the tank.
I had a anagenys come out of my tank last week but luckily I was beside the tank when it happened. Stunned the fish though as the fall was around 5 feet and made a hell of a slap as it hit the tiles :(
