hi was wondering what price on average are people getting for there Malawi either from LFS or wholesale [blue dolphin, red empress, venustus, pandani] and other fish like this

sealord1au

Hi there <
><
>Most of those fish you asked for sell for $1 per cm from the local
eeders but you can double or triple it from the lfs from what i have seen.<

I was talking to a local lfs the other day. i told him that had venustus growing out. and  that he would give me 2 bucks a fish also replied that he had to make money . i replied the he would sell them for at-least $12 there for he could afford $4 for 4cm as it cost me money to get them there. and we have spent at-least $2000 in the last few months. as we are only just starting to release fish for sale after investing about $14000 into this i hope it gets better. is there a way to get a price list that wholesalers give to
eeders?

>If that list has prices & you got that off a shop, I hope Bay don''t see this & find out, I believe the odd employee lurks around here too.<
><
>ps; I know of a few lfs that only mark up trade ins by 100%. I suggest you shop around if you want better value for money.<

<
>The wholesale list can be viewed by anyone that wants to view Bayfish website, notice how they don''t show the prices. <
><
>LFS aren''t meant to make these prices public, that was all.<
><
>But while we are on the topic,   The wholesale list is real helpful.   especially with cichlids.   remember some cichlids at wholesalers are bought off
eeders as most aren''t on the import list.   <
>eg; A particular African is $35 wholesale on "one" list. Yet I have seen LFS sell them from $30 to $40 as they can''t sell em dearer, LFS can buy this African private for $15 to $20.<

I''ve owned a petshop in previous years, any small business isn''t easy to make ends meet as much as the consumer seems to think we have money falling out of our ears, if small business was so easy and lucrative why aren''t all small business owners driving Beemers for eg? and not supplimenting their business income with DSS payments, yes, it''s a fact, a lot of small business people need the dole to survive, a sad but true fact, so when I hear someone whine abt having to pay this and that for a particualr item it makes me cringe as to the fact that they have no damn idea on what it is like to run a small business.<

Small business!. most fail to bad management and  customer relations  .  i started fish because the children wanted to deliver pamphlets for pocket money as i don''t like them walking the streets. in a way it''s a small business so all i was doing is seeing what sort of price to look for

><
>Dave, How do you know what ALL the consumers think. You are a consumer and you know its not true. Its generalised statements like yours which get threads like this out of hand. Not everyone is as ignorant/stupid as you imply. I tend to agree with gasnitro.<

>Seems to me you are whining about whiners. Hows the irony  <

Not very much as they are very common.<
>It varies from store to store;<
>some sell alot of cichlids some don''t,<
>some have higher overheads, <
>some will buy in bulk at a cheaper price to then in turn run a special, <
>customer demand on a species at a particular time......<
>then again some shops may offer cash, some only do shop credit.<
>If all are 3cm plus then $3 to $8 a fish for those species mentioned. Just an estimate.<

Have you contacted one of the
eeders for any pointers?<
>Most are happy to offer advice.<
>Also, have you been to one of the Brisbane or Gold Coast auctions. Just a suggestion but maybe an easier way to start selling fish and get a feel for the market, then go from there.<
>Lots of fellow
eeders there to mix with also.
