Title: Sunday Mail story of fish smuggler
Post by: GTR73 on June 19, 2005, 09:43:00 AM
I know it''s a bit of old news now, but anyone see the story in today''s Sunday Mail (page 47) about the women who tried to smuggle bags of fish under her skirt into Melbourne from Singapore?<
>What I found interesting was the picture of one of the bags which contained some type of catfish. <
>With some of the prices I see of rare catfish on the forums and at auctions, you can almost see why this woman went to such extremes. <
>I wonder what other fish she had tucked under there? <
><
>What people will do to make a bit of money!

Ok, a women had some kind of sewn together aparatus that held ten or so plastic bags of fish, in pouches, running up each leg and concealed under her skirt. <
>She was trying to smuggle fish into Australia from Singapore and was busted by Customs ''cause they could hear the fish splashing around in their concealed bags. <
>One of the photos showed a bag which contained two "Bristle Nose" shaped catfish (except they weren''t BN), so I assume they were probably rare (I mean, why go to the effort?)<
>Anyway, Customs destroyed all the fish beacuse "they were a threat to native waterways".<
><
>The photo of the catfish was fairly clear so I was wondering if anyone may have seen the article and guessed what rare species they were.
