Title: best type of filter for a well stocked tank?
Post by: on June 17, 2005, 04:50:00 PM
i have a 4 foot tank fairly well stocked with mainly africans and the 800lph internal filter i''ve got doesnt seem to be coping, so i was wondering wat kind out filter ie. internal, canister, hang-on etc. would cope best with a well stocked tank. im not really after a sump either and will be trying my best not to spend to much on it. <

I have a 4x2x1.5 hang on back type filter with a 1200lph pump feeding it, I find it works very efficiently and there is minimal space used up inside the aquarium, same with an external canister - less space used. But its really up to you what u prefer and what you want to spend , just look in a few LFS. The only advantage buying new is you will get a waranty & piece of mind if anything goes wrong.<

For the money, the Cf1500 pro aqua is good value. I have one on a 4" tank. They are quiet and do a good job for what you pay. They also have a large media area and come complete with everything you need. I would suggest checking out the sponsers for a good price. Ben always has them cheap. (AOA)<

What parts are available for the 1500? I have 3, never an ounce of problem for 2 yrs never turned off, except to clean, and that isn''t often lol, ... where the outlet comes out of the lid I have a small leak, is this an O ring seal? and is it easily obtainable?<

If you get another filter, I''d recommend keeping your 800L/Hr internal going as an auxillary/backup. Plus you''ll need to keep it cranking anyway, while your new filter gets established biologically.<
>I''d also take a portion of media from the internal and place it in your new filter, so you can kickstart the bacteria growth in it.<
