I know the one your talking about, its a shame, what goes around comes around, I lost all my africans a while back due to one
istlenose being infected from ''that shop'' and it will hit them even harder in there hip pocket when they find all there stock floating. No matter how cheap there fish I''ll never spend a cent there ever again.Karma works in mysterious ways.<

is this the one big one just off the motorway near macdonalds your talking about??<

Im not going to say which store it was, especially over a PUBLIC forum, its not the right thing to do, <
>bad karma....... <
><
><
>Ash
Im sus on any store that uses a sump conected to all their ''lower pH'' fish tanks. Then you know if one fish has whitespot, theres gonna be parasites in every single tank. <
><
>I say ''lower pH'' because ive never seen any african tanks with whitespot, its useually the tetras or something. Could be a coincidence
There''s no excuse for getting white spot in your tanks if you plopped the new fish straight in there without at least quarantining them, I''ve worked in commercial piggeries and poultry farms and that is a HUGE no no, we didn''t even allow sales reps to step past the front office, keep the germs away from your main stock and there''s no problems, a spare 2 footer isn''t too much to set up for this. You blamed this particular LFS yet it was YOU who placed the disease in your own tank! think about it.<

I don''t agree with what the LFS is doing, but, same applies to any livestock, you learn about their husbandry needs before you go and fill up a tank with stock, .. unless you want them to all die!<
><

attn woopiman, if u were aiming that post at me read on, if not, read on anyway: <

><
>Fair comment: "theres no excuse to get whitespot in your tanks", but there is also no excuse for a LFS selling whitespot infested fish whether they are aware of it or not.You dont buy a pet dog from a pet store with heartworm, they are allways wormed, vaccinated and health checked before selling. It shouldnt be any different with aquarium fish.<
>Think about it!<
><
>Cheers Ash.: moon <
><
><

I dont think thats fair at all, even if you are an experienced fishkeeper. I dont have the room, powerpoints, or money for a quarantine tank. I have to take a risk everytime i buy a fish.<
><
>Just gotta try choose a healthy one, and make sure you dont get their water in your tank.
I''m looking at getting some fish from 1 or 2 of the sponsers here. I''m a noob but I''m also assuming any of these guys should be fine with regards to crook fish? :-)<
><
>
You say you can''t afford 1 extra very handy to have 2 footer?, ok, where do you place your sick fish? Just out of curiousity if you have 1 does your dog have a kennel? My point was (and not aimed at anyone for the paranoid ones out there) that you simply have the correct set up to suit the needed or required pet, the onus is on YOU to ensure the livestock you are buying is healthy, we CANNOT assume that the LPS owner is or has done the correct thing, novice or not it is still up to YOU to learn just a little about your purchase before you actually purchase them, .... now where did my horse wander off to? .... damn thing, no one told me I needed a fenced in yard to keep it in, oooops, there goes Granny May''s rose bed, silly me, novice horse owner here now who shall I blame for my f*ck up??<

dave,<
>this started as a post about a certain shop knowingly selling a fish carrying a deadly parasite. I dont see how it got onto the subject of every fish owner having to know the signs of everyfish disease there is. because thats pretty much what you are saying.<

I hear what you''re saying and yes I agree the point has been made, and No not every pet is disease checked prior to leaving the shop, simple solution, don''t shop where the reputation is bad, too easy, enjoy the hobby all and check those potential sick fish before u take them home and ALWAYS quarrentine them before u infect all your other expensive hard earnt well looked after fish at home<
><
>Cheers Dave "I believe that sex is a beautiful thing between two people. Between five, it''s fantastic."
the way i see it ,<
>there are some pet shops, im not pointing the finger at any one shop, that are just that, PET SHOPS then there are AQUARIUM SHOPS that specialize in fish. I would really hope never to see fish in the condition of those in question being presented for sale in an aquarium shop.<
>when i first started off in the hobbie i did buy fish from the shop in question and never had any luck with any of them.<
><
>ill probable put a few people of side with this but i cant remember the last time i went into a lfs or pet shop with the whole reason in buying fish, i would rather buy fish from fellow hobbiest, at least i know there in it for the hobbie and if there is anything wrong with there fish most will go to all extreams to fix the prob where some shops would rather leave the fish and hope for a sale to the newbie as they need to make that sale to pay the rent.....<

I would like to have a quarantine tank. When i get some more room ill get one. I would assume though, that the average fish keeper (as opposed to fish enthusiast) would have no quarantine tank. (Although i am an enthusiast myself). <
><
>anyway, this might be a bit off topic, but you know what is really bad? When you go to a fish store, and there are multiple DEAD fish in the tanks. Who wants to buy fish from somewhere with like 3 dead fish being picked away by its mates in every 5th tank?<
><
>Is it too much trouble to pick out a dead fish from the tank? Do the people that work at these places have so many other things to do that they dont have the time to actually make their store look decent? Why would ANYONE feel good about buying fish from tanks with bodies floating in them?<
><
><
>As far as im concerned that should be the number one thing on the priorities list. If anyone is too lazy, or doesnt even check their tanks regulary enough to see dead fish floating everywhere, then they are not getting my money. That really turns me off. <
><

I know exactly the shop and they are so rude.<

ol mate,<

><
><

not tryin 2 get in a fight or nethin, but a shop isnt legally allowed to sell diseased fish. thats like selling a packet of cornflakes with a family of rats in it. while quarantining is the ideal solution, it aint always practical to have that many tanks set up as quarantines dave, especially if you have a few different water conditions (africans, tropicals etc.). if the fish was diseased in the shop then the shopkeeper/attendant should no have sold the fish.<

I love my fish, as I get them small and watch them grow I (some may think this is weird).... get ''attached to them'', and wether I get them from a LFS or a local
eeder I allways quarantine, since I learnt the hardway from my earlier in-experience with fish.Theres nothing worse than losing your favourite fish/s when it could have been so easily prevented<

personally i have never had a problem with buying diseased fish, never (even when i was a kid) did i pick out a fish dat looked unhealthy, and you can tell when they are. i have it easy with quarantining, i only have one water type, so i onli need one tank <
>frenchy i know what you mean bout the tank never staying as a quarantine tank becoming a fry tank etc. its so easy to do, especially when theres nuffin in it and you need some room. you think to yourself "It will only be for a while......." three months later and you have run 2 more batches of fry through there <
