Post by: Damo83 on August 23, 2005, 12:36:26 PM
Hey guys
i purchased some hecqui a little while ago i have six and am hoping to get a pair. im just wondering at what size they will pair off and what sort of activity will indicate this. they are currently at 3.5cm. also how can you distinguish between males an females apart from size? is there any way??

Cheers

Hard to sex until like 5 cms males are bigger and territorial just give it time and watch them they will pair.  the female will stay close to a shell and a male will hang around her and scare off any other males. try doing a search on meeli also ask Malcom at wetzpetz he has researched them a bit for me he might have an article to pass on. hth

hey mate, at that size it is hard to sex them!! Obviously the bigger the better chance at a male.
You could try vent sexing them but even then they are a bit small.
Throw a few into another tank and the change in conditions normally makes them pair up. It has worked for me before!
