I have lots of large black mussell shells ranging from 10 to 20cm in length, would these types of shells be suitable for keeping multies or do you need a particular type of shell? Don''t actually keep multies at the moment but was looking into it.
haven''t tried mussel shells with shell dwellers before i find snail shells are the best<

Shellies need uni valve shells...mussels are unsuitable as they are bi-valve.<

>Mussels won''t be much chop, if you are after some shells, as Matt said or go to the markets, or theres a cheap shop next to maccas in Surfers that has a huge selection.<

Fishtraderlau (Andrew) has great calcium carbonate snail shells. I got a heap of him when I got my multi colony and they''re prefect.
Thanks everyone for your replies you''ve all been very helpful. I might try using the mussel shells as extra hidey places for my clown loaches instead, and eventually get some snail shells for a multi colony.
