convicts are easy as, will breed in a very small tank.
heck, you don't need to do more than add water really....and something for them to lay eggs on (clay pot or alike).

are you trying to breed cichlids for the first time?
could also try a mouthbrooder.

Mate I have a breed salousi, fuelliborni, eletric blues in that size tank, not ideal but possible, can sell you some fuelliborni in a week if you like, not at breeding size but they are a nice fish

Some little shell dwellers would go well.

Nice to watch succesive generations, and don't need a lot of room if plenty of shells and cover.

mate you'd have to be a nutter, those fish's fry could barely live in a 1 1/2ft tank

Ash,

I'm kind of a one species per tank guy.

Have a look aroud, see which species appeals to you and install a pair.  There are a few to choose from.

Set it up right and you have a very interesting tank that even may pay for itself with sales of offspring.

Alan

PS . don't just settle for the most available shellies if they don't appeal, wait til the right ones come up.   They are all just as easy to keep

Then I guess I'm a nutter....As I said its not ideal but can happen. This guy wants to experiment with breeding then a couple of juvies will give him that satisfaction in a tank that size. By the time it happens he'll be hooked and have a bigger tank and raise his fry in the small one for a while. I have had 4cm salousi in quarantine in a tank that size that have bread within a few hours
