Title: Any tricks to breeding Sumba Shell Dwellers?
Post by: genie on September 17, 2005, 05:17:06 PM
Hi Does anyone out there breed Altolamprologus compressiceps Sumba?
I seem to be waiting a long time but nothing is happening...
I was hopeful at one time as the male and female were dancing arount each other a couple of months ago but nothing came of it.
What size do they need to be before they breed?
Does anyone have any good 'links' for more information. I haven't found much really useful on the web yet.
Thanks
Jeannie

Hello Jeannie,

Try barnacle shells, small pipes, shells.......as long as the entrance is big enough for the female & not the male! High quality foods to help bring them into condition, live brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, white worms...

Try Andrew at Beenleigh Aquarium & Cichlid Centre. He breeds these guys, he may give you some tips.

Also have a look at the Perth forum, there is photos.... on breeding sumbu.

Also try "Fins" ACE forum, he breeds them too.

Adam(absolute vodka) knows his altos too.

Frenchy :D

Fins is your man when the topic is Altos. He has alot of different variations and breeds all of them on a large scale.

To trigger some spawing action bump up the ph, have barnicle and mystery snail shells available and feed only the highest quality foods ( mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, baby brine shrimp)
