Post by: Konigwolf 13 on September 21, 2005, 04:06:55 PM
Hey all after a good alge controller for a 2'*1'*1' tank, I did have a mystery snail in it but my blue rams didnt agree with him   , any suggestions?

Andrew

PS it currently stocked with 2 A. Cacatuoides, 2 A. Nijsseni, 6, neons, 2 panda cory's, and a small BN.

1 or 2  commom  Bristlenoses should do the trick
and water temp from 21 to 25c is fine for them; they only get up to 14cm

imo the pleco is the 'victa mower' of algea eaters, compared to bristlenose that I have kept in my display tank, when I added a few plecs, after only one day there was a very noticable difference, so my preference would be the plec...

i went to gators and just got a couple of little algae eaters for my 4ft tank. They scrubbed it up over night and were only about 4cm and cost me $2.95 each. Cheap i think and they do a great job.. plus if one of your bigger fish takes a liking to them you wont miss them much cause you didnt pay an arm and a leg for them.

If you are looking for the algae eating cyprinids I would suggest reading this:http://www.thekrib.com/Fish/Algae-Eaters/

The Siamese algae eater is a peaceful schooling fish, the Siamese flying fox isn't. They are both awesome on algae! My various ones out eat BN Cats. The SFF chases my silver sharks, my convict, my rainbows, and anything else it feels like, the SAE duo eat algae and swim together.
