Title: Totally confused ????
Post by: Clarkii on October 02, 2005, 01:34:19 PM
Hi all,
I am only new to the forum & new to the world of catfish.
I have a question about bristle nose catfish identities, is the peppermint bristlenose Ancistrus sp L 059 ? or Ancistrus dolichopterus ?.
& is the orangespot  bristlenose Panaque albomaculatus?.
If any one has any comments as to the true identities of these bristles let me know.

The quick and straight to the point answer is ...... no one really knows what they are, well not the ones here in australia anyway.

Right to the point Jamos,

The 'peppermints' we have here do not fit any of the described spices, or varieties and the orange spots don't fit any thing described either.

Nor do our common bristle nose for that matter.

Just to make things interesting

Alan.

To my understanding of things (limited in regards to africans) most if not all "sucker mouth" catfish occur/originate from South America

As Jamos and Alan said they have not been identified as any species that is caught in the wild, so not a question that can be answered.  :?
