Hi Guys,<
><
>I hope you are all noob freindly around here. :-)<
><
>I''ve just dusted off the old 4x18x18 to setup for display purposes only. Wanted some advice on stocking it. I dont want any fish who''s diet consists mainly of my other fish. My plan was as follows:<
><
>Bristlenose 1 m 2 f<
><
>2 or 3 khuli loaches (love those guys)<
><
>Dwarf gourami 2 pairs (I''ve heard that too many males and <
>I''m asking for trouble but 2 should be OK in a 4 footer?)<
><
>Some schooling fish 20 or so neons. (What other fish school together?)<
><
>A black ghost knife.<
><
>Maybe a betta (in a floating tank.)<
><
><
>That''s the list for now as I''m not sure exactly how many fish I can put in there without causing to much trouble. Does anyone know the amount if fish inches for a tank that size?<
><
>Thanks heaps guys.
Director,<
>Some people will tell you to steer clear of BGK''s and neons. I would say to be careful as well but I have 2 BGK''s around the 20cm and 28cm mark in with significantly smaller fish. 1''s that would easily fit into their mouths but haven''t had a drama. I would get a small BGK and let it grow out in the tank. I''ve found that as fish grow together so does their tolerance of others. Just make sure there is plenty of hiding places for the BGK and plenty of food for it at night otherwise you could find a few less neons occasionally. Hope this helps.<

for a community, any of the barbs or tetras will school, as will danios. congo tetras are espeially nice fish, with the males getting real nice fins and colour. rasboras will also spawn.<
>in a tank that size you could even have a pair of small american cichlids, such as Bolivian Butterflies, Mikrogeophagus altispinosus.<
>heres a link for them www.cichlid-forum.com/pro...php?cat=30<
>hope this helps
Neons will more than likely end up as a food source. <

Deffinatley give the clown loaches a try.
Pakistani loaches are worth a shot as well if you have the cash and the resources to get some. Try Wetpetz, I''m pretty sure they had some a while ago and I agree with Clown loaches as well. I''ll never have a display tank without a heap of them.<

Those neons will be good Black Ghost fish food as he gets bigger<

Thx all,<
><
>All of the Black Ghosties i''ve seen so far are only around 8-9 cm long, no threat to my neons there. I guess I could always trade any trouble fish out if they get too big?<
><
>Cheers
<
>Hang around this forum long enough and we''ll eventually convert you to cichlids of some sort. <
><
>Cheers, Doug
Not if the little suckers eat all my lubbly plants. ;-)
I would also put my hand up for the Clown Loaches. If you havn''t had them before just do a bit of research as they need a bit of special attention getting them established, espically in winter. Also take care where you get them from as they can be prone to haveing or getting "white spot". Clown Loaches are also a "schooling" fish.<

eedin was to hard in a tank.. o.O<
>amazin but
imo If I were to set up a full blown planted community tank I''d probably go for some discus or angels, good looking fish. fish fish fish fish turkey fish fish gobble
What about the dwarf Americans .... Apistogramma''s...they would be my choice. <
><
>You could fit a heap of differenet species in there.....and they will tolerate most other ''tropicals'' too.<

>Woh, How? Im the same i thought they only spawned when about 30 years of age and it had only been done a couple of times in tanks. Does he feed them live food? and how old would you guess they are?
Clown Loaches spawn at 7inch or 17cm. if you have plenty of room for them to move, lots of food just before they start(3 days before) and the right temp, they love to make lots of loud noise and scatter eggs any where they will land. remember they also love to eat eggs!
30 YEARS????? they can live that long???????<
><
>it is 4:30 in the monin so dont flame me if i''ve misread<
><
>lewis-
They easily live 40 years according to forum on loaches.
