I use the thing that sucks up the water for your ph test etc. It works well. You can flush them out with water in the sucker or swoosh them back and forward in the water
What and use a earbud to keep her mouth open ?. Thankyou.....Jordan

I got the idea from a fellow sparky so there are a few people out there using them. I have even got real techo and use differing size cable ties depending on the size of the female. Bloody smart eh?

>Does this work no problem? I''ve tried it with my P.saulosi and they seem to just keep holding indefinitely. In the end I can''t stand it anymore and I strip them using a cotton bud to hold the mouth open. With my most recent batch the female had them for close to five weeks and the fry were already free swimming with no egg sacks. Edited by: GTR73 at: 6/7/05 6:53<

Firemouth123 there isn''t anything wrong with doing that everyone else does what they think is right to do and you think leaving the fry in the mouthers mourth till she spits them out is your belief.Me too i left 2 mouthers with mouthfulls about 3 weeks and she didn''t spit them so i stripped her she ate pretty much straight after she had no fry. Thankyou.....Jordan
You guys are missing the point.<

>By stripping before three weeks is not speeding up the process of the fry growing any quicker than if they were left with the mother holding them.<
>When we have a female that has only just spawned, she is removed from the
eeding tank and kept in a 3 foot tank by herself until she spits, she is then left in that tank until fry become free swimming, and fed substantially before reuniting into the original
eeding tank.<
>She will not starve herself or eat her young if left alone to do her own thing.<
>Therefore the fry don''t have to be captured for resale until approx. 3-4 months later, only the mother is removed.<

I still don''t really get how you do it wih a cable as i would like to try it but i don''t now how to do it i usually just use the cottonbud . Thankyou.....Jordan
In regards to leaving the mother in the tank to release naturally, all I wanted were more details:<
>When she releases them do they re-enter her mouth after that regularly?<
>Or does the mum eat the kids if left too long?<
>After the fry are free swimming do you then remove the mum?<
><
>I don''t know as never tried it myself. <
