Title: Using polypipe as the pump return on a system...
Post by: Dyce on July 11, 2005, 05:38:00 PM
So I have done about 50% of my 4x4foot setup with the outs done on the tanks, Anyways its time to do the pump back to the tanks(simple 2 tanks across, 2 tanks high) and I have all the PVC piping BOUGHT! With my T''s L''s and Ball Valves.<
>Anyways my dad has suggested(more like conning) me into using polypipe, a suggestion I refused at the start of the spending spree, now he said I should do the pump to the pvc so I can move the pump, but then he went on to say that I should do the whole return in Polypipe and went ahead and bought all these polypipe bits and peices.<
><
>Anyways what I need to know is will 25mm Polypipe work on a 6800Lph pump? I haven''t found any information on polypipe use in fish systems and that plus everyone else using schedule40 pvc is enough information to turn me away, but does anyone else have any information?<

>I don''t want water blasting around my bedroom.<
><
>Plus I''m pretty much sure this is a scam so my dad can steal my PVC stuff(He tried it by using half ex-scrap plumbing on the tank-outs as well). fish fish fish fish turkey fish fish gobble

as long as the pipe used wether pvc or poly(flexi) is used, it should be the same diameter as the pump out let.The less bends and joins you have the better the water flow. And less chance of gunk getting caught inside the pipe Cheers<

im using black poly pipe , it is on my 2 5ft tanks that r sumped..its been working alright so far<
>i use it for both pump to tanks and as drains.. but i am going to change my drains to some thicker stuff due to other reasons.. but it seems to do the job<
>for pumping the water into the tanks.. though im only using a king 4 which is less volume then urs i think<

poly is notorius for leaks, if not done properly, i would stick with the pvc and do it the best way you can from the start.<

Well I ended up going polypipe curved from pump to UV sterilizer(only inlet and outlet on it anyways) then into the PVC setup and its looking pretty good.<
