Title: keeping temperatures at a steady level
Post by: lee on November 11, 2005, 10:54:59 PM
I have some black ghost knife fish and they say the temp should be 23-28 degrees, on hot days it will go up to about 30, even with the airconditioning on in the house. how far can the temp go up before it effects them and how do I keep it at a steady temperature and help would be good.

cheers lee

There is a few ways, First off is to replace the normal lids with a mesh (or just remove them if your fish dont jump) and put a fan onto the tank.

Second way is either ice bottles or Thermal Ice packs. Just dump them straight into the tank untill it drops down or they defrost.

....also keep lighting periods to a minimum, and power heads also produce heat (an alternative for water movement could be airstones)

Hi Lee,
:?  If your tank is in an airconditioned room and the temp of your tank is reaching 30 Degrees  8O
Sounds more like you need a new heater to me.. :!:

hey lee

it is nice living up here isnt it!, lucky for you proserpine is cooler than rocky!

anyways all those sugestions work well, i foud the biggest temp drop was done by no lights, added airstones, and i took the lids of the sump (may not apply)

but really if the aircon is not keepeing the room at 26-28 than it is too small for the room.....or maybe some insulation is in order..

I am still only running the aircon in the house during the day, lights are on 4-9 every afternoon, no airstones, lids on etc still. 8 footer with big sump pump to heat up the water and still at 27....
