I picked up some nice yellows @ the auction last night.<
><
>When I got home, I noticed there soon to be tank needed a bit of a top up. <
><
>So proceeded with the hose through the window method.<
><
>Before I knew it I am like: "Whats the smell". Turned out to be the new hose had quite a bit of plastic/petrochemical fume build up. <
><
>So, I had to setup a temporary 2ft tank from scratch, with a few things hanging around: cc, heater, powerhead and a diy on the spot sponge filter.<
><
>Two problems:<
>a) How will I eliminate Ammonia in the 2ft. So far I am adding a bit of a.c.e and daily water changes (the tank isn''t cycled)<
>b) How will i remove the "dangerous chemicals". So far I have emptied, washed sand, hosed the tank, filled, emptied, refilled emptied etc.<
><
>Any suggestions would be handy.<
>Cheers dyclops
i know its to late now but always run the the water thru the hose for a min to get all the toxic water out of it.<
>really the water running thru a normal garden hose is not made for human comsumption and should not be drunk and fish tanks not filled from the said hose. <
>having said that we all do it but it is not good for the fish.<
><
>grab a filter from an already cycled tank and drop that in. <
><
>maybe leave the water changes for a few days to let it settle down b4 any more water changes.<
