Title: what a week
Post by: jason on November 27, 2005, 03:23:15 PM
i had to go to north qld for work this week so i left my missus in charge of my tropheus and the rest. thuursday she told me a few of your fish have died i forgot to tell you and the rest are looking sick. i sent her to the vet to get Metronidazole  but it was 2 late i lost 12 fish 2 with mouthfuls and now left with 1 :( . The electric yellows and acei in the tank are happy as no problems at all. Now i have to convince the missus that i need a few hundred more dollars to replace them all. 2nd disaster my old man bought a 6ft tank got it home we unloaded it and he left it in the yard to wash it out. He went in inside and heard a loud bang went outside and the tank had cracked all the way along the bottom from the heat only bright note was that it is covered by insurance...........i wish fish were

Sorry to here the bad news.  :(
The old going away & leaving fish up to others routine is always a nervious affair.

I had my mum look after my tanks last week, which included baby White Calvus. I am lucky see dosen't mind the fish & she did a great job. Now I am looking after their house(dogs)  while they are  "Back Home Like"

I hope you can talk the gf around into investing into more fish. What killed them did u find out?

Frenchy :D

Well my husband was away this week too so I took the oportunity to clean up the tanks to the way that I like them...Clean....and after a lovely clean up and a huge water change with filtered water he got home tonight to a huge spawn of Wood Cats. (our first).
I'm going to take the credit for it with my big water change in conjunction with the big storm.
Don't know if they are fertile yet but if they are Wood Cats will be going cheap.

Scientific Name is AUCHENIPTERICHTHYS THORACATUS.
I think thats correct spelling.
Info and photos in Baensch 1 or 2 (not sure) & on Planetcatfish

I did notice myself in Planetcatfish that they don't believe they have been bred in aquarium before so I'd better get out the camera.

Eggs havn't hatched yet so we will have to see if they are fertile.
I think they will be as they mate frequently but up till now she hasn't produced eggs.  The eggs are very big so the fry if they hatch should be easy to feed.
All are looking good so far so fingers crossed.

Just a note on the Wood Cat eggs.
They didn't hatch. Bugger.
We'll fattern her up again and see if maybe water change and storms are the trigger or just coinsidence.
Fingers crossed for next time.
