Frenchy,
The others that I have heard that have been real successful is protein pellets (mostly the same as fry powder I believe) and/or krill pellets in a pepper grinder and ground up over the tank surface. Haven't tried it yet so can't confirm 100%. Remember, mums the word as we don't want this getting out lol  :D .
Cheers,
Bryce.

oops sorry Bryce nearly forgot,  8O

The first time my mate had ghosties breed, he didn't even realise there were youngens. They would of been picking up leftovers that got down to the big pebbles where they were hiding.

How did they go Brian :?:

The most deceptive thing about them is the size of their mouths. I think most people don't realise just how big it is and the size at which something can actually fit in at any size they are at. This also applies to young BGK's. I have heard of similar things Frenchy regarding people not knowing about fry until they get a bit bigger. Obviously surviving off "left overs" and a larger mouth would aid in this I reckon.

Be interested to hear whether fry survival rates have increased over the last couple of years as most of the people I spoke to lost a lot if not most at very young ages for reasons unknown. That was a couple of years ago but.

Also Frenchy I take it your mate has a gravel substrate with them? If so just wondering what size, what colour, how deep is it and how much of the bottom is covered in it? Just curious as it seems more and more people are having success outside of what was considered the "norm" of chinese containers filled with marbles etc.
Cheers,
Bryce.

The bottom 10 cm or so of the tank is covered in large black pebbles. I have shown him info on chinese containers, box filters & the like, but he can't be arsed "messing" up the tank.
Uses a large hang on filter & a power filter at the other end, blue light, lazy on water changes, stringy green algae growing everywhere, a few hollow logs & artifical(platic)caves, rock music & pot smoke to create the mood

He notes the signs of breeding, red flashes, wrestling... then keeps an eye out for little ones & gravel vacs them out & rasies them in another tank.

Auctually I haven't seen him since the start of the year, have to pay a visit I think. ps; small world too, I met Brad(Aqua alive) 18 months ago, mentioned Ben as he is from Grafton too, both grew up together, cricket, soccer, school.....note to Brad, have to go visit, he's keen for a catch up, been years.

The female looks likeshe swallowed a golf ball, and egg tube is starting to show.but still no action yet.just hoping she doesn't re-indest eggs.

BUGGER!!!!!

female hasn't spawned yet but her egg tube is gone & she is getting thinner so I'd say she is ingesting eggs for the second time.Time to try something different.

Frenchy,
Sounds like the perfect tank for BGK's to breed in by way of set up and maintenance. What sizes are they, and tank size. Thanks again

Brian,
Sorry to hear it. Frenchy hit the nail on the head with the red flashes though, a definate sign that spawning is imminent. Have also been told by many that the female should be bigger than the male. Be keen to hear more about this from others as well.
Cheers,
Bryce.

Hi Bryce.

Pm that you didn't get just said male is approx 35-40cm female is 25-30cm.They are kept in a clean bottom tank with a couple of logs. They seem to get on well sometimes staying in the 1 log.even when food is on.
