Gday<
>Im trying to make the little tyke colourful - wont eat pellets so I''m going to grw him to 15 cm or so before I wean him onto pellets (he''ll get hungry then eat them eventually I guess). Anyway Im feeding him feeder fish and normal bait prawns, chopped up with the occasional bloodworms. Do they have to be red prawns for colour? Theyre kind of greyish and frozen generally. <
>Any help appreciated.

red prawns = cooked prawns, like what you get at the shops. All prawns are green before cooking....<
>Most of the freshwater born jacks that I have seen have had next to no colour in them what soever, thay look more like a
eam.Salt water born are by far the most red you will get what ever you feed them, I reckon you would need to keep the water on the salty side of things to keep them nice and red, but thats just my opinion anyways. Cheers<

Red when theyre cooked, huh? So I guess I''ll give him a quick boil eh? As to the salt water thing, Ive seen plenty of grey salt water jacks. Ramezi?
were the grey ones you saw "big" fish, i mean like offshore fishing big, cause alot (not all) of the larger jacks on the reefs are of a grey colour. The smaller esturine jacks are the nice red ones, from what I know about them..... Cheers<

You wanna be feeding jacks raw prawns not cooked prawns cause all the goodness is taken out when they cook em & ya want seafood shop raw ones not bait prawns cause there''s to much crap in bait ones & i''ve also found that if ya feed em those small shrimp ya find in esturies in
ings there colour out?.<
>Pete.
<
>I was being cheeky about the red prawns, I know that no live prawns are that colour. <

>Try & find non farmed prawns too. Salt water yabbies are good too.<
