Hi,
Can someone please tell me how to measure fish? ie, from head to end of tail or from head to fork of tail.
I will be selling three mid sized 6 bar Fronnies, 1 adult black calvus and 1 junior gold comp and need an accurate size so that i dont undersell/oversell the size of the fishies.
Ta
Not sure how it is normally done, but if you measure to the fork of the tail your buyers won't be dissapointed in the size.
Dave.
doesnt really matter but just specify.
eg if you measure from the head to the end of the tale put "TL" (total length)
i think you will find most people measure from the end of the tail
ok theres only two measurements that you need to know.
as kev touched on TL (total lenght) which, as the name suggests is the total lenght of the fish and SL (show lenght) which is from the tip of the nose to the caudal peduncle, which is the point on the tail of the fish where the scales stop and the tail fins starts.
most ppl dont know about the show size so they go with the TL .
))o
I thought SL was Standard Length? (Nose to base of tail)
Aquaholic99 is mostly correct. SL is standard length which is measured from the tip of the jaw to the the end of the last bone vertebra (can be found by bending the fishes tail and where the crease forms or you can run your finger down the vertebra and you can usually feel the end of the bone. Also, fork length is to the fork join but only used for fish with a forked tail (not frontosa), and total length; well, most commonly used on live fish.
Cheers
Gary
