Hi mate, you use Silica sand you can get it from any good pool shop, but the stuff you get from the pool shop is not suitable for small filters so pending on the size of your bed filter, If its a small filter you will need the finner stuff you  can get it from age of auqariums or Aqua mail. Good kuck.

if you already have other filtration on your tank you can use purigen in a FBF. this kinda changes the use of the filter from colonising bacteria to using purigen to its full extent. Purigen absorbs all impurities in the water and amonnia, nitrate and nitrite. So your water will be cleaner and cleareer than its ever been. with purigen it absorbs for so long then you soak it in bleach to regenerate it and it lasts for years.

some poeple cryed and whinged last time i suggested this because its not the way they were originally intended to be used.  but it works really good.

just an idea[/url]

hey just because that is not its intended use doesn't mean it wont work good on you for coming up with it . Trial and error is the best way to learn sometimes.
