Title: Black calvus question
Post by: brad282 on December 16, 2005, 09:18:44 AM
I have 6 black calvus i think they are 3 males and 3females they have been together for a long time and arent too aggresive towards each other. they are about 8cm so i guess they are well around breeding age. my dominant male is one of the smaller males which is quite strange consiering his much smaller than the other male. i noticed last night the dom males face was totally black compared to what it normally is and too the other fish. looked really good like it was  a mask.  just curious as too if this is a breeding thing or not, they prob wont breed cause the tank is too overcrowded but does anyone have any suggestions of what this might be, i was thinkin maybe territorial or breeding behaviour. cheers brad

hey brad,

that is just a sign of dominance which he is trying to impress the ladies and also warn the other males who is the boss........to try and start pairing them up wat you should do is ut al thenm in their own tank(4ft is perfect) and let them pair up in there.............you can either let them breed in there and risk fights of warniing off breeding grounds or seperate them into littler tanks by them selves and live a happy life and lotsa babies............

thats just what i would do so just see wat other peeps on theforum thik

cheers Zac
