Post by: Konigwolf 13 on December 31, 2005, 09:56:44 PM
Havn't been able find any real info on our aussie version of this fish, I was looking for a probable expected max size, if anyone knows?

60 to 90cm they are the common cat fish you catch on a line in all our salt water creeks and rivers. all though I have not seen one 90cm for 20+ years, all aquarium salmond tails come from the Brisbane river as there is only one collector.

I have caught the freshwater eel tail catfish, if you could imagine the the length of a potato sack plus 10 cm extra. Weighed about 8 lbs. Another species which is quite rare and very desirable is the golden eel tail catfish- also freshwater.

was wondering what strain they were. if you get yourself the northern species of salmon-tail they can easily grow to over a meter. and if you want a southern one like they sell in pet shops just catch it yourself in any brakish to freshwater creek or river in seq/northern nsw, their pretty easy to catch.

cheers
