Title: EOI NatuRose Natural Colour Enhancer
Post by: Mistakes Are Crucial on January 11, 2006, 05:42:45 PM
Hi,

Once we get over all the red tape over the next few weeks we will be importing NatuRose, a natural microalgae based source of Astaxanthin that greatly enhances the colour of tropical fish.  For those who are not aware of it's benefits here is an extract from the supplier's marketing blurb...

[color=darkblue:17200b3b84]Now FDA/CFIA approved!
NatuRoseā„¢ is the first commercially available, microalgae-based source of natural astaxanthin. It is derived from Haematococcus pluvialis microalgae and contains 15,000 ppm natural astaxanthin. NatuRoseā„¢ is extremely effective for pigmenting salmonids, sea bream, prawn and for fresh and saltwater tropical fish. It has demonstrated beneficial results with shrimp larvae, broodstock and bivalves such as abalone. [/color:17200b3b84]

It would be very helpful to know the level of interest from our members here so we have an idea on quantities to bring in.

Pricing as below INC GST and based on exchange rate 11/1/06 and are subject to change. Postage would be additional.

50gms $49.95
100gms $90.00
250gms $225.00
500gms $350.00
1kg $600.00

Cheers

that that I'm interested in at those prices and your attitude but for any who might, while 50 grams is 50bucks, whats the dosage rate? ie how long would one expect it to last? - this also affects how much you need to be ordering

Andrew

PS sorry for being rude but sellers who "assume" really get under my skin. The seller is there to service the customer not the other way round WHY? cause I the customer can always go elsewere

I heard some colour enhancers can lower sterility in fish.Don't know if this is true or not but would be good to find out.

Mac,

Mate that is some pricey shit. From my experiences in the industry cheap sells and considering I can get 1kg of white crane for the price of 50g of this I would not be interested personally. I stick to what I know and that is Spectrum:lol:  All the best with it, If it works it may sell but at those prices I reckon you could rule out 99% of hobbyists.....may have a market with shopkeepers who wanna make there fish more attractive to the buyer

Andrew,

"Our members here" means us, a group of people, as one group, have in common.  I did not mean to try and take ownership of anything and the last thing I am is arrogant.  As for being a Noob as you put it I think you had better ask a few people who have been on here longer than you have before you start mouthing off.  You'd be better off sticking your head in a book learning the English language than slagging me off!

I didn't put the post in the classified section as right now we have nothing for sale, I was merely trying to guage a level of interest but as is normal on this particular forum, a very small percentage of members have an IQ level of less than 10 that just love to prove that fact to everyone else on a regular basis.

Cichlidkeeper,
Thanks for the reply mate.
NatuRose is not cheap upfront but it's completely natural and has many benefits apart from colouring.  It's full of antioxidants and many other things that fish in general utilise.  It's also nothing like White Crane but we won't go there or start that debate again. Also it's not a food by itself, it's an additive to your own mix.  If you only have a few fish 50gms is likely to last 6-12 months.  I make 5kg of beefheart mix at a time which lasts me about 8 weeks so at $25 a month to naturally better the look of my fish I find cheap but that's just my opinion.

LOL I'm not trying to sell it to all hobbyists, Im busy enough with my business and fish room.  I just thought anyone that knew about it could at long last get some, Discus breeders here have been looking for it for a long time and it hasn't been available.

IF I have offended anyone here by posting I do apologise, it was not intended to do so.

konigwolf 13, i SERIOUSLY suggest you look at the way you treat your own transactions before you decide to have a go at everyone else. The last time you bought something off me that daughter of yours was trasing my lounge room and you saw it happening but did nothing, I was elbow deep in a fish tank and all you did was watch and nothing pisses me off more than bad parenting.

You have got some nerve having a go at another seller who was only trying to gauge interest he would get when trying to make some honest money selling a product instead of sitting on his ass getting centerlink handouts(not pointing any fingers).

I strongly suggest you look at what you say on this forum in the future because generally people only respect the opinions of people who have made something of their lives.

Personally I don't care about the reaction to this statement because I feel it needed to be said and for people to know the disgust I feel when it comes to critical people like you (Andrew / Konigwolf 13).

Yours Sincerely, Wilson.

Cosmo,

Compared to you wipper snappers in your teens and twenties I am old lol.

Cichlidkeeper, thanks mate, we've had alot of interest from Discus breeders so we'll end up bringing in a few kilos.  Yes, it is in powdered form.  It will take a month or so to get it all organised so when it arrives I'll give you a shout.  If other additives I use (vitamins etc) are anything to go by the 50gms will last a fair while depending on the amount of fish you feed.
Cheers

Thanks Nick,  the more I read about this product the more I'm impressed.  The truth is it's as cheap as, 3-6gms per kilo of food will give you the maximum color result but thats only the beginning.  It's full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids and more, all the stuff we want to get into our fish regardless of creed or colour.

I've been talking to the growers of it in Hawaii today and they seem to be totally up front.  For anyone that's interested they have the technical analysis and reports on it for all to see, it's good reading but a long one.  If you would like to take a look at what they say please PM or email me and I will pass it on.

Why not put feelers out & see if the product will be popular :?:   :?  Alot of "big" corps do it.    Though public interest & parting $$$ can be 2 different things sometimes.

All the best with it mac, me personally, I don't have any fish that require  Astax.... (wonders if white calvus will go red)   as you said, the discus mob will be keen.

People may be suprised/may not, Astax... has been used here in Aussie in a few industries for years now. Done a little research myself a year or two ago. 8)

Hi Frenchy,

We looked for it locally too a year or so ago and found it, only problem was the price, 7 grand a kilo for the pure stuff and because they sell it to the Aquaculture industry they wouldn't do up smaller lots.  From memory I think they said "that's cheap, you'd be able to do up 10 tonnes of food with a kilo"  Erm, how many fish do we keep?

For those that were interested in buying NatuRose I have found the growers as opposed to a reseller in the states and the pricing is considerably less by the look of it.  I will revise the pricing downwards once they confirm the shipping costs Monday or Tuesday.

Hi there,

I have this morning received confirmation of shipping costs from the growers of NatuRose so below are the revised prices and they are considerably less than the reseller we first spoke to, how it pays to keep looking!

50gm $34.95
100gm $65.00
250gm $150.00
500gm $250.00
1kg $400.00

The above pricing does not include domestic postage and are subject to change depending on exchange rates.

Please remember that NatuRose is a food additive and you only use 3-6gms of the product to 1Kg of food.

We should have a result one way or another on our import license application over the next week or so and will let you know whether it is a goer or not then.
Cheers MAC

When it comes to  my own peace of mind for breeding purpose I would rather not use it, there is no other reasons why. For a LFS or some one with display fish I see no problem, or who ever chooses to use what ever they want is there choice.

We find that Sera Flora all veg brings out great colour and it is good for adult fish, every time we buy fish i ask what they feed them including aditives. there are a lot of LFS that use white crane.

Mac it is my choice not to use it on my breeders no other reason.  if you have Africans  that really need colour enhance then maybe need  to look at the fish instead. if the requested  for using such product to sell my fry then I would use it . Mac then i would buy a Kg as it works out cheaper lol
looking forward to see some fish that have been on it for a while.

Quoteproblem was the price, 7 grand a kilo for the pure stuff

if it is this price for the good stuff then what is in this stuff to make up the difference in volume. i am not having a go at anyone just curious.

i am only new to this breeding thing and i will get around to talking with my  Aquaculture buddies [my inlaws] i know they dont use it. but if it is on there list then it has to be good for human consumption mmm  Fronty tonight nah
Mac good luck with it. i might get some discus then get some from you till then cheers

I, too, was disgusted at Andrew's comments. MAC is providing a service to the fish community by offering alternate food. As a trader/wheeler-dealer (or whatever you want to call it) myself, it always annoys when people post these kinds of replys. It is often difficult enough to source and arrange distribution of aquarium products without having to read ignorant, uneducated and blatantly rude (disrespectful) input such as that.

Good luck with it MAC.

I was just wanting to find out if this product you mention here (from micro algae) differs from this product (from shellfish) available from an online fish supplier in OZ. I ordered some about 12months ago but when it arrived in a repacked container with no label or anything written on it I refused to feed it to my discus pairs. I still have the unopened container and I can tell you 30g of this stuff is a large volume as the powder is very light.

Here is a description of the product I have.

All Natural Colour Enhancer To Be Added To Frozen Fish Foods Produced Under Strict Aquaculture Standards, Imported From Hawaii.

Astaxanthin, a naturally occurring carotenoid pigment produced from shellfish, is a powerful biological antioxidant. Astaxanthin soaks up free radicals and protects against their negative effects. While it offers significant health benefits Astaxanthin simultaneously increases pigment and greatly enhances the colouration of fishes. Not only does Astaxanthin provide for pigmentation in animals it is also required for their correct care. Fish cannot produce their own carotenoid pigments, therefore their diet should include the plant life which in their natural environment provides it. In aquaria this is rarely possible and a healthy substitute, such as aquaculture grade Astaxanthin should be offered regularly. A little goes a long way. Simply sprinkle onto frozen food "like salt" (no more than a pinch) and turn any form frozen food into a highly nutritious super colour enhancer which REALLY works.

If you have been avoiding controversial commercial colour enhancers now you too can have fish coloured to their maximum.

I amjust interested to know if the source of the Astaxanthin has any effect on the quality of the produce I guess.

Hi Ann,

Hope the Discus are all doing well.

I'm sure there are many products out there that have Astaxanthin in them, it has been used in the aquaculture industry for many years and especially to colour up salmon, prawns and other sea food that we like to see a nice pink in colour.

It is an algae but from the reading I've done it's not necessarily just from shell fish, however, it does occur naturally as Astaxanthin is the very reason Pink Flamingos are pink and other animals and fish are the colour they are.

NatuRose is simply a tradename for a product that contains a percentage of Astaxanthin but at the same time it has a great many other beneficial ingredients such as minerals, vitamins and antioxidants, this is why a few of us up here on the coast decided to buy it .

Your quote is quite right, in the wild fish and birds can eat foods that contain carotenoid pigments whereas tank kept fish can't unless they are given them.

I can't comment on the product you have but I would imagine it's not a lot different to what we are getting.  My suggestion would be to ask your supplier for a technical analysis so that you can see what's in it.

One thing I can assure you is that Astaxanthin is natural, it will not harm your fish, it won't stop them breeding and it will generally better their health.  However, some people won't use it regardless, it's their choice.  I won't use many of the pre-packaged foods out there either, I read too much but we won't go there!

I think any new foods are worth a try I personally am an african and catfish breeder and have been using sera flora for a few years now just recently I tried spectrum foods and have found the difference unbelivable not only in colour but spawn size and everything. My point is we all get set in our ways and don't wish to try anything new I am the best example of this but when you do and see the results it is amazing. I think mac is doing a good thing by introducing something new and if I had discus I would definately buy some but I am more than happy with my results now. I have heard a bit about this food and it does sound good especially for discus and the alikes. So congrats mate on getting everything aproved and hope it goes well for you and good on you for trying to make the qld apuaculture scene better.

Gasnitro,

It probably isnt on their list under the tradename NatuRose mate but I can assure you the Aquaculture industry all over the world has been using Astaxanthin laced foods for many years and will continue to do so, its nothing new.

I buy 25kg bags of what they call Prawn Starter, an Aquaculture food for prawns and the only reason I buy it is for the Astaxanthin content, we crush it up and add it to our beef heart mix.  Some of the foods your in- laws would have on their list would almost certainly have an Astaxanthin content, it's very common.  We just very much like the overall contents of NatuRose for our fish, its not just about Astaxanthin. Cheers.
