Hi all,
Organising a get together here in Emerald, anyone is most welcome to come. It will be on the 25th or 26th of Feb, have to check with Andrew (fishtrader) on which one suits him best as I think there will be a tour of Underwaterworld, aka Andrews fish shed, in Blackwater earlier in the day. Then on to Emerald for lunch and a beer or two. I know another guy here that has a nice setup as well, should be able to organise a looksee at that as well. Bring the missus/kids/mother-in-law, whatever takes your fancy. So, who's up for it??
Dave.
wrong part of the state doh
Cmon! It's not THAT far :D
Dave!!
I agree champ, it isn't that far, quick Ipswich up to Emerald too, out through Dalby, Miles and up to Emerald! 110km/hr most of that way too so quicker than me heading down from here i reckon...
Well, i think that weekend could be a goer champ, unfortunately Lloyd will be in Brisbane which is a shame, but i'll talk to the 'boss' about it and get the go ahead hey :)
Hope all is well in Emerald champ,
cheers,
Andrew.
Hey Andrew,
Shame Lloyd can't make it, maybe next time. It's the only weekend that realy suits, unless I leave till about six weeks later, but I reckon we'll nearly be organising another one by then. I'm sure the 'boss' will be fine with it, but you just never know what plans have been made on your behalf  All is going OK over here, cept buying more tanks for the new stand has been put on hold temporarily. We blew a head gasket on the way home from our Chrissie holidays, still in getting fixed, should have it back tommorow. The damage?? $2500!! Just what we needed straight after Christmas  Nothing a few OT's won't fix I guess. Nevermind, at least the fishies are all going strong.
Hope to see you here end of next month.
Dave
yeah sorry dave won't be able to make it out, blame the missus for this one. will try and get out that way in the near future.
cheers lloyd
I might even be able to get out to this one. We will have to see!
James
Would be good see you over here James. Any other takers??
Mate, Min and I are definates...either day confirmed yet? sat or sun suits us so let me know hey. I shot out an email just before to most of the CQ fellas so maybe you can reply all and remind everyone of it :)
Cheers mate, look forward to checking out your place for sure.
Andrew.
Sounds good Andrew, I reckon we might make it Saturday hey? Just wanted to find out wich was best for you if people where going to be visiting your place as well. I'll shoot you an email in a minute, chasing a couple more tanks  .
Thanks.
Dave.
I won't be able to make this one, my wife is off to Sydney and I have the kids for a week around that time :(
But I will be going to the fish auction the week before with Lauee.
Hi Pete,
Kids are no problem at all, but if you can't make it, you can't make it. Maybe next time. No worries at all :D
Dave.
It would be great if a few lads from Brissy could get together and organise a road trip.....from towoomba to emerald maybe 7-8 hours...
Have exams that week Dave and generally a crazy time but will see what i can do.
Dave,
I have not personally met you but myself and my partner are very keen to come to Emerald via andrews place for the next CQ get together. Saturday suits us as we are travelling from Gladstone. So please keep us in the loop with any changes of details.
Frank
Hey Frank,
That is awesome, look forward to meeting you both. Shouldn't be any changes, but will let you all know if there are.
Mick,
Would be great if you could make it, but if not, I understand. You do seem to lead a pretty busy life, I'm surprised you have as much spare time as you do.
Thanks guys.
Dave.
Dave you have PM
I can probably give a lift from Rockhampton if anyone needs it. Or if they can get to the round about from gladdy. If I am working that day (no idea yet) I will be good for a lift from gladdy too.
James
Only 2 weeks to go now. Hope you all have it marked on your calenders :D Oh, and if any of you have any Tanganyikan cichlids that you may want to part withand could bring with, there could, maybe, possibly be some interest at this end
Thanks.
Dave.
Is there an itinerary for it all yet? What time where sort of business? Accommodation if needed?
Also: Andrew, can we get through to moura past the Cook washery? We were looking on a map and it looks like a goat / logging track there. But it was an old map. Would save a bloody lot of time!
James
James the road that goes down poast the cook washery is crap... then after the entrance to the BMA mine it gets very good for about 10km then it is dirt i am pretty sure Most of the way to Rolestone...unless it has been fixed up in the last 6months.
well team...this weekend!!!!
to get to moura, if on the way out go from rocky down through mt morgan and wowan to moura.
fastest way from blackwater to moura, up through baralaba and woorabinda. dirt roads for say 60km of the 210km but good quality dirt generally- i get along 100km/hr on them, maybe 80k/hr if you don't have much experience on dirt or know the road.
road down past cook is pretty good too, a bit longer dirt though and slightly longer than via woorabinda, fastest way if leaving from bma mine itself but i don't think you'll be doing that :)
if heading to moura on the way home from emerald..best bet south from emerald to rolleston and across that way.
As far as accom. no chance in any hotels and mining boom is driving things and prices nuts.
blackwater to emerald is ~50 mins drive so we'll be back here in blackwater saturday night, anyone is welcome to stay here too if they want so head back here after finishing up at dave&kylie's in the evening.
as for timing...i reckon get to emerald maybe 2pm? is that your idea Dave? so people coming through blackwater call in here maybe 10.30am so depart for dave's by 1pm.
any suggestions let me know, what time do you want us there Dave!!!
Cheers all, look forward to catching up with you all,
Andrew.
What do we need to bring? Is it BYO? Or fully catered  ?
We will be there! Barring any problems, touch wood!
James
oh this sucks so bad, y do you guys have to be so far from the gold coast
would be there but for the distance....and work :(
what i need is a personal jet.....
matt
Yeah, anytime early afternoon is fine. Fully catered as far as food goes, plenty of XXXX in the fridge in case ya get thirsty so should be all good. To find our place from blackwater just come over the bridge in to Emerald, chuck a right at the Shell servo in to Opal street, follow that all the way up till you find Bonython Dr on your left. Bonython Drive does a big loop so take the second one not the first. We are the second house on the right, number 54.
Andrew, I'll get you to bring some fish food over, i'll shoot you an email or something on Friday.
Thanks.
Dave.
rightio, tomorrow it is !!!!!!! this is excellent team, bloody hell i love my fish hey :)
2 palm st is our address in blackwater so if you are heading out, call in here on the way, we'll head to the shed and stuff before heading to emerald! we'll expect people here about 10:30am or so. we're in the phone book if you need to call us.
anakist, spare room here is all good for you guys on sat night so no worries.
trophius, you heading out? we'll be seeing you on your big day in a couple of weeks wont we :) no probs for you to crash either.
Well Matt, distance the limiter hey...i must say that we get down a lot, never had anyone up here, i lie, Matt from FishBrothers made the trip up once, champion..popped out as he was in Mackay.
There are a few fellows we hope can come up soon, road trip to Lloyds thursday night, then up here friday for big poker night friday night, and then chill saturday in the shed, maybe a run to emerald and the fellows or back via rockhampton..bloody excellent it'd be!
see you fellows tomorrow hey!
Andrew.
Righto...the day has just about begun. I've been in the fish shed all morning emptying and tidying buckets (fear not lloyd, all your buckets and filters are neatly stacked- yellow buckets in yellow buckets of course, just so you can never get them apart :) )
The rocky crew expected here any minute now so the missus has had me hanging paintings and tidying rooms, while i am on here she is now sweeping off the patio and the like.
Should be a great day, i'll be sure to let you know how it goes and throw up a few piccies at the end of it all.
Cheers team,
Andrew.
Well, the day has been and gone. The food was good, the beer was cold and the talk was fish, I think we had everything covered. It was good to meet James and Anthea, although I think we may have met once before. Everyone was here by about 2pm, spent some time looking at my tanks and growing collection of Tanganyikan cichlids. Also showed my home built sump + overflow setup, agricultural but effective  . We then went around to Steve's house for a perve at his setup. Malawi mbuna this time, and a nice tidy setup to boot. Back to my place for a feed, a couple more drinks and a yarn or two. It was around 7pm when everyone left for home. Some had come a fair distance for the day, so just want to say thanks to everyone for putting in the miles to be here, James and Anthea (hope my spelling is close :D ) 600km round trip from Rocky, Andrew and Min 150km from Blackwater and Steve- two blocks  . I think Andrew may have a piccie or two to throw up later on.
Thanks again everyone and I eagerly await the next one. 8)
Dave.
g,day dave,
wish i had been able to make it, sounds like a good one. i didn't even get to look at any fish shops while i was in bris-vegas, doctor's, hospitals and relies kept us busy for the 2 days.
and andrew forgot to grab your moliro's too. hope to make it out that way soon.
cheers lloyd
Dave: Yep the spelling is right. I am becoming more sure we know you from the "Blackwater Super Auction".
Was a pretty boring day all up. Millions of whiting, and I think some bream and baby trevally. Only natives I saw were a couple of spangled perch (which fell into the back of my car!), a spiny eel (which didn't), and a mythical turtle ;)
Even though we took no money out there specifically because we weren't going to spend any, managed to pick up fish and a 7 footer. Hmmm...
Davo's Authentic Indian Curry house was a highlight of the weekend! Definitely worth the trip!
Good to meet you all, looking forward to the next one.
James
Whiting! There where Whiting?? Damn, must have missed that  Not many natives here I'm afraid, but looking forward to seeing yours some day. I used to keep a few Barramundi, a Yellowbelly and a couple of Aussie bass a while ago. They where awesome except that it was almost a full time job feeding them, damn those things can eat 8O . Makes you wonder how they could possibly be hard to catch. Glad you both had a good day and a good trip home and yes, look forward to the next one.
Dave.
ha ha james good one,
u still got know idea about nice fish. lol
but andrew has nice rainbows at the moment i must admit.
cheers lloyd
I am sure Andrew will have something to say about the other fish I bought on the weekend.
And the ones I liked...
James
Well Boys,
Sounds like you all had a great weekend, Would have been nice to get out there, but had other issues here to deal with..
Dave, I should have come out there so there was someone that shared your passion for decent, atttractive, interesting, colourfull fish lol
JAmes i am surprised you have not snapped up that nice 2 foot toga at Neptunes, it is an impressive looking fish, but an expensive for a meal, even though they taste pretty ordinary.
Soooo were and when do you think we should have the next gathering?
Unfortunately can't be our place. We are starting to get into the whole renovating thing. It is a huge mess, and will only get worse.
James
For the next one guys...I reckon either Scotty & Frank & Co. should have us all to Gladstone or we try and catch up with WazBoyne and his setup as he now lives in Middlemount.
JonFishin is out here too in Tieri these days so he could easily meet us in Middlemount.
If there is no takers, i am always up for it :)
Cheers team,
Sorry to now have photos up from Dave's yet, i'll see if i can't do it later this evening!
Andrew.
