Title: Need new filter ...any recommendations???
Post by: climber05 on January 25, 2006, 07:00:23 PM
i've got a 6x2x2 display tank. at the moment its running on two internal power filters. I would like to get a cannister filter but have never bought one before. can anyone reccomend a good filter that won't blow the budget. im looking at spending $200-$350.
any info would be great. thanks in advance.

is there anywhere on the gold coast that stock a good range of eheim filters. i've never really looked. i'll post an ad in the aquarium trader although i now my chances of gettin one  from there is pretty slim.
thanks for letting us know.

I have a few different canniester running and I have been most impressed with the Aqua One 2200. Avail from age of Aquariums for $280 you wont find better value IMO.

best filter in your price range is the OTTO PF450G

They have a constant flow rate of 1800 l/h

I use them and they are great.

Yeah i use the otto 450 as well, they are real good filters
You could also try the new Sacem marathon 2000, excellent filter also. Plus Ben has them on sale atm!

Go the Aqua One.. its a direct copy of Eheim and half the price.
Have heard nothing but good about them and parts are readily available too if you need them.

I agree, excellent Italian quality. I also have had a 1000 Marathon for a few years and it's fantastic.

However, why don't you have a look at a sump or a dropside filter for your 6'?

While you are at Brad's why don't you check out the sumps they have there.
Better than any canister filter.(IMO)

I've got an otto 450g & where I live we have a few blackouts (4 in the past 2 weeks) & every time the power goes out a spurt of water comes out of the seal until the power comes back on or water leave drops below inlet from tank.Could be just ours?Any advice on this would be good. ( sick of cleaning 300l of water off the floor in the mornings.)

Hey thanes,

I have no idea what is wrong with your otto.

I have 2 of them running and have regular blackouts but have never had that happen.

You might want to check all your seals and also use a silicon based lube on all your seals so they last twice as long and seal twice as good.

I got my lube from my lfs, but if you cant get it from there i suppose you could try a hardware shop. PM kev or one of the shops and see if they have it.

Title: "O" lube
Post by: syno1 on January 27, 2006, 08:29:09 PM
The stuff you need to get is silicone lube , it allows the "O" ring to slide & not  jam & twist thus letting air & water past . If it is 3 years old you might want to get a new one & start again .

                                                       Regards Chris.
