Me three!!!
id say a female peacock of some sort
No way female peacocks are brown striped not silver
and look at the markings in the tail!!!!!
it is not a Red Empress they have horizontal lines not verdical
this is what a girl empress looks like

If you have a close look at the second pic you can see faint horizontal lines which tend to come & go as they get bigger depending on mood as this fish about 10cm.
My first thought was large female electric blue.
firstly not all female peacocks are brown ,secondly, some female peacocks have the same markings in their tails as well. its not a female electric blue as its to high and a diferent shaped head to the elec blue.id still say a female peacock of some sort
Looks like a Protomales could be red empress.. they all have vertical as well as horizontal bars depending on mood they can show either or both. The Jaw isn't right for peacock, the mouth is too high up the face.
Could be [i:f0bd0ef806]Copadichromis[/i:f0bd0ef806] sp. female. I agree that it doesn't look like a red empress.
Andrea :)
it's definately a Protomelas, you can tell by its shape and markings. i agree with africanman, the lines do fade with age and mood.
its not a peacock (Aulonacara spp.) as you cannot see the pit-like marks on the lower jaw (Aulonacara in latin means flute-face). these would be visible if it was.
its not a Copadichromis spp., coz it is the wrong shape, too long in the face.
as to what sort of protomelas, i take a guess at either Red Empress or Fire Blue, as both look exactly the same as that fish. as to which one, i have no idea, they are too similar, i would have to get it in my hand to tell.
but it is definately a Protomelas spp.
Matt
maybe its one of those new breeds you know those x ones
really if i seen red empress with bars going down then it would not be for me. :) and without a positive id i would not reconmend ever breeding with it just put it in a display tank for that Bream look  .
