Title: How long should I leave babies with parents???
Post by: Ulysses048 on February 13, 2006, 11:47:14 AM
Recently had first batch of convicts ........
This pair had laid twice before with bristlenose cats as tankmates - so eggs soon disappeared - I moved them to their own tank, provided a terractotta pot - and a week or so later - hundred of babies !!!
Parents doing a great job - not lost many (any - don't think) - but I believe from my research, the parents wil lay again soon.
How long should I leave the fry with the parents - have been told the second batch will get eaten by the first batch? - anyone had this experience??

when i used to have convicts i would let the babies get to about 1cm before moving the parents to another tank with their pot.

This saves much hassle trying to catch the babies!

If they are laying more eggs before the first batch is around that size, just move the pot and the adults into another tank (providing you have one that is).

hope that helps.
