Title: large rocks for cichlid tanks
Post by: AndrewF on February 23, 2006, 10:43:01 AM
Gidday,

Im setting up a new display cichlid tank, and without plants (from my previous tropical tank) it is lacking somthing.... Does any body have any suggestions of where to get the large rock formations, the 'live rock' that some lfs sell?

Do you mean the eroded looking stuff with numerous hole bores in it?
Andrew Lau (aka "Fishtraderlau") and Lloyd (aka "mudskipper"), brought heaps of rocks like this down from CQ to last weekend's auction. So maybe PM them.  They both regularly come down to Bris.

Most big aquarium shops to sell rocks, my preferences is the volcanic looking rocks that don't have so many little holes but big holes that go right through the rock.  What location are you at ?

I wouldnt worry too much about "Live Rock" unless you are going to keep Nemos.

Thanks,

I am at Brissy - Im after the volcanic ones with a bit of colour and big holes - I guess there would be a huge demand for these sort of rocks. Ill give those fellas from NQ a post.

I recommend fake rocks! They are light (easy to maintain/re-decorate), look pretty good, however they are damn expensive.
