Title: Paint for inside the aquarium
Post by: Luke39 on March 06, 2006, 06:32:33 PM
Hi, i was if there is any type of paint you can use in an aquarium, without being dangerous to the fish. I want to paint some rocks in black for a different effect.

Any info is much appreciated

Regards Luke

Hi mate. I'm only new to the fish collecting hobby, but I sold paint for seven years. The only product I'm aware of that will do the job is a product that Bondall put out, called Pondtite. Paint itself is not suitable as it will give off some rather nasty chemicals. Pondtite is a membrane, not a paint,  that is specifically designed for use in ponds. the only thing is I can't remember if black is available. I've been out of the paint industry for a little while now, so I can't find out for you sorry. Just go to a Bunnings, I know they sell it, and ask about it.

Hey mate, I have pondtite in black but was not impressed, needs to be painted on a roughened surface which I did, 3 coats, 2 weeks cure time and still bubbled in 2 days. It also has a pretty crappy look to it, mat black no gloss

there is a bitumen putty/paint  used to patch up rainwatertanks, roofing, etc. it is very thick ,smelly when wet, and not that easy to put on. i have used it one backgrounds for display tanks and it does work. you can sprinkle small gravel on it when it is wet. hope this helps
