Title: Prices on Classified Items.
Post by: on March 11, 2006, 03:07:23 PM
It really annoys me and im sure a few others that when advertising certain people are not putting prices on there items, If you want to sell your item, either price it , with ONO if you want. Or say offers.

This waiting for pm's and picking the highest price is not a fair go, if you say offers well that's fine, but to make everyone pm for a price is not only a waste of time, it's really irritating.

After opinions on this, as if it continues to much we may force people to list what it is or have it removed.

Cheers,

I agree. Just a suggestion. If you want to run an auction format, list it on ebay and provide a link in the Trader section on the forums? It seems to be the fairest way to do things. Otherwise, if you know what price you want, just list it in the Trader section like normal. The whole "make an offer" thing is really annoying.

Well we can have an auction section if it is wanted, and will be used enough. I can see people not wanting to use ebay just becuase of the cost.

No location in the ad is a pet hate of mine.
I mean Brisbane is a big area to cover from north to south; so a suburb should be listed in either the ad or profile.

Location and price need to be included.

I'm bloody(Hope there's no Poms on here  ) sure that in at least 90% of cases people know exactly what they want, but are just hoping that some mug is going to come along and make them rich overnight.

On the other hand its hard sometimes to guage a price on say a large Native fish or similar, and one might ask for an offer to guage the market. The problem is that some people keep these things going on and on.

Unfortunately to stop confusion and people getting upset, it looks as if the only way is to stop people from asking for offers altogether.

Another way would be to ask for offers around a certain price, so that people at least would know if they're in the ball park. Then if you miss out, you know its because you're a tightarse.

I definately think locations in profiles need to be clamped down on.

And to put an ad up without either having location in your profile or in the ad is silly.

And specific locations too!
Not 'Brisbane' Gold Coast Ipswich etc

Put your damn suburbs in people

But in all, yes I agree, list the price, if after offers put up a ballpark figure.

Good arguments above.

I think a auction section is a great idea.

I agree. No stated price is really annoying and to be honest, I for one just move on and couldn't be bothered sending a PM to find out.

An auction page would be great - like the aquabid site that dawnwoman put up the other week.

PM for a price or offer is a waste of time and space, you know how much you want before posting, so post it. If trying to guage the market price it shouldn't be in the for sale section cause it's NFS, put it in general, it's a question after all.
Auction site?  are there enough guys around with stuff to sell prepared for a possible low cost, sure could be good but some firm guidelines would need to be set otherwise you will have 1 guy selling a heap of crap from china. just have a look at ebay now.

Post by: Savage_roo on March 20, 2006, 06:32:23 PM
Well I don't think it would work
and if we got one here should be a limet on how many bids you should get say 10 at the max to save space and peoples time
and it must start with your resurve price
No bids its pased in lol then u can haggel in pm's
Well its just a thought lol

put a price on it, or dont post it up
if it doesn't sell or get any interest - then lower your price
is it still doesn't sell then its obvious no one wants your stuff
grum - maybe put a poll up?? - Auction Forum/ No Auction Forum :D

Is it just me, or are a number of people still insisting on being particularly vague when selling something, whether it be livestock or otherwise. Its not hard. Selling fish? Make your title informative, not "Fish F/S". In your post, put what breed it is, what sex, what size. Name a price. The vast majority of us have digital cameras. Post a picture. If your concerned about page download speed, offer a link to an online photo album like photobucket. Don't have a camera? Offer a link to a picture that you have found on the net thats close to what you have. And put down where you are located. Remember, you are the seller. By making it as easy as possible for the prospective buyer, you increase your chance of selling your item. I know I have just ignored posts that have not provided enough information.

Oh, and by the way. DON'T USE CAPITALS! Capitals signifies yelling. I don't think any of us appreciate being yelled at.

I agree with davo0903 but I notice he has the same location "BRISBANE" (shouting) it really anoys me that we cant be a little more specific!

nothing worse than having to waste peoples time than to ask a geographical location question  :(

Ha touche. It can be there too, but I was refering to putting a location in the post itself, ie "I'm in Tingalpa."

Either one would do the job though.

Sorry about the tone but I find myself asking a lot about location, I don't ask anymore if no location I don't buy!

i think for the subject should be what it is 'Subject"
weather it is "F/S hongi, b/n, dolphins" ,or what ever.
and put full discription in the box so when you open it you can see full details what it is.
EIO are a waste of time.

Post by: nick on June 27, 2006, 10:47:49 AM
yeah its is a good idea, to just have ur details ready for them in the post so they dont have to waste time in asking.....this way u can just look straight away and decide on weather u want to buy it or not and not have to ask more un needed questions
Title: here's my 2 cents worth
Post by: neyund on June 27, 2006, 11:36:55 AM
I think in most of us who have been on this forum for a while know what  to do.  Some people tend to forget to add certain details like remembering your own mobile number cos you don't call yourself.

a quick fix is to have a template, one for fish for sale (FS: .....) and WTB: .....

etc.

in each message body, have a template of the details:

fish name:
size:
sex (M/F ratio):

Contact details:
phone:
email:

I think you all get the message.  I hope this helps.

Cheer,
dan

yup, thats a good setup neyund, if people use that it will be much easier to understand and get all the info

I think an ACE style/rules should be used.

3 Prefixes FS/WTB/EOI: followed by an informative description.

ie.  EOI: Breeding colong of 7 bar frontosa -1M 3F. All 20cm+ (Say ~ $400)

FS: Hongi fry (40) ~5cm. Lots of 10 only. $35.

      WTB: 4*15*18 tanks (for growout).

Now if you fail to abide by this your post is warned, then removed. I know it's a bit of work for the Mods, but give it a little go and you may be surprised of the results.

In addition I'd like to see if in the post the is "make an offer" etc - a ballpark figure should be given ie. Example 1.

I would also like to see a "useless post" rule. You know what I mean, PM Sent, Email Sent, bump etc. Why is it necessacary to do this? I mean if you sent a pm, you can see if it's sent via the sent/outbox. IMO, it shits me when I see 5 replies with PM sent. I mean if your asking questions that may benefit everyone i.e. Glass thickness, M/F ratio, can you sex them etc. why not ask it publically. As for bumping give it a week (7 days), and if still no bites, bump it, just not every 2nd day. And if you're having to bump again, perhaps consider a price change/market investigation.

This is just my own opinion and is based on the ACE forum - one of the most successful classified browsing systems that I have seen. You get all the info you want and need in the 1 line descriptor.

Ok, it of a rambling but i'm still angry about 1-0 result.
