Urgent help needed, my tropheus has bloat and they have already started to die   :(  :(  :(

I'm trying to source some Metro 'Flagyl' and none of the vets want to prescribe it without seeing the fish.

Has anyone got any idea where I can obtain some easily????

Has anyone got any I can use and I will get some later????

Pleeeeaaaseee helpp meee

I never thought this will happen to me as I've done everything right from the day one !

here is my treatment,

day1  50% water change.  add 1x 200mg metro tablet to 30lts of tank water

I was stupid and ignorent, thinking it won't happen to me.

I sourced some flagyl and I've started the treatment on saturday, and I must say that its working.

I do one dose in the morning and one in the evening. I do 25% waterchange before the flagyl goes in each time. And I mix it with food...

There is 3-4 that aren't eating but all others are doing well. I've lost 5 Moliors :( and I don't think I will be loosing anymore.

And the flagyl doesn't come cheap, $1.50 a 200mg tablet.

I might be able to get some really cheap. I'll find out later on today...

Where do you get these medicines from?
and are they as effective as one another?
I haven't had a problem with my tropheus but would like to be prepared as i am getting new ones at the moment.

Umm Metro is Flagyl, Metronidazole.

Flagyl is the human form, or common name for the drug prescribed to humans.

Just thought i bet clear that up for people who thought they where different.

Grumandi is right,

Metronidazole is an antibiotic that is usually prescribed by a GP if you have a toothache or upset stomach. Flagyl is a brand of Metronidazole. Same as 'paracetamol' = panadol.

Hopefully, I will be getting some flagyl at a good price. If I do it will be in a bulk, thus I can pass on the savings to a more responsible people who want to buy some before its too late.

I also think that this medication has benefited my pleco/bnose in the tank. The are all out and about sucking like there is no tomorrow, and are showing great color. You should see the butterfly pleco, looks like 'newcastle united'.

Metro is an ingredient in Flagyl, just like paracetamol is an ingredient in panadol

Flagyl can only be prescriped in lots of 21 at any one time. Thats 21 tablets. It isnt that expensive, around $26 last time I bought it.

Yeah whatever, who cares :)

haha just kidding.

Finally I got the Metro at very very good price....

Anyway I got much more than 21 tabs and at much much better price.

Those of you who want some send me a pm.  Keep in mind, its better to be prepared than desperate when it happens (like me)

what sort of spectrum were you feeding, is that the only food you give them.
my mate doesn't have a problem with his ones on the african.

Sorry to all the fish vets out there who were offended about the medicine name

I used to feed them Sera Flora and NLS but when I went NLS exclusively about 3 months ago and they started to grow quicker and were showing better color...

So primarely NLS Cichlid formula and occasionally seaweed and zuccini

I also throw in algae disc for the b.nose and plecos in the evening/nite and some of that gets grazed by the tropheus as well.

The bloat is now history,

Well it was a first time and I've learnt my lesson.

After four days of treatment everything went back to normal. Unfortunately 6 moliros died. They were only juvies and bloat hits the the young ones the hardest.

Thanks mudskipper and all others for your support.

Lets hope this never happens again, and if it does, go forbid, I'm prepared like a crazy chemist.
