anyone know where is good place to buy rainwater tank. i heard that u get rebate up to $750, so was planning to buy one near that price since its free.
make a few perspex windows and you'd have one hell of a tank.
There is a heap of people doing em know try yellow pages they are all pretty muchamuch.
ha,
just wondering if rain water is better to use in fish tanks, besides the fact that its saving water. Is it less harmful than straight tap water. I was thinking of getting a small one at the new house, purely for fish water. Should I?
Thanks,
Hopefully I be getting an 8000l rain water tank in the next few months only for the fish.It will save any worries about tap water quality.
Cheers Brian.
Straight Rainwater is perfect for americans if you use it for your waterchanges (so long as it hasn't come off a zincalume roof as it's toxic for fish). I used to do rainwater changes for my community tank and the colder temperature mixed with the lower ph was the perfect immitation of rain flowing into the rivers where the fish naturally come from. I had 4 young adult angels in my community tank and the first time I did a rain water change I ended up with two breeding pairs both with eggs within hours of the rainwater being added.
A good place to get a tank is Polyworld, a 3000 litre tank is cheaper than the rebate so it costs you nothing.

Unless you are keeping rasboras, tetras, or S.A. dwarf cichlids, rain water is not going to be any great bennifit except to save excess water bills.
But when you are only paying 75 cents for 1,000 liters of tap water, is the cost of adding minerals and salts to rainwater to keep other species worth the effort except to ease your concience ??
Fish water gets used twice at my place! In the tanks,,,,then on the gardens. That eases my concience.
Hey Alan,my old fish tank water gets used the same way but I also use it to soak my timber for the first few weeks.I didn't think you would have to add anything to rain water except a bit of salt.( only have sth americans & african riverine.)And only a bit incase of injury. It would be good to know what else the fish require.
Cheers Brian.
