Have had some problems with hydra here have been trying and searching for a cure for 12 months. Finally stumbled across an article by adrian tappin saying that panacur(a cattle drench) works, gave it a trial last week it totally wiped out the hydra in 48 hours all were dead after 24 hours though. Didn't kill the test greshaki in the tank (probably wormed him lol) But so far results are great have tested another tank tonight, with other fish in so see what happens in the morn. Dose rate 1ml per 20l. By the way it was panacur25 not panacur100.
Hey braddo what's hydra?I've never heard of it b4.
Cheers Brian.
Hey thanes hydra is like a minute sea anenome that occurs in fresh water. It has stinging cells on the end of tentacles if your tank contains fry it will kill and devour them adult fish however seem to get very irritated by them and constantly flash their fins and scratch themselves. They cover the rocks sand filter everything in one of my tank I reckon their was thousands of them.
Update on last nights treatment I treated a tank containing gold comps pecocks and gibbeceps all are fine this morning and the hydra have shrivelled up by tomorrow they will be all gone. So it is safe to use on most varieties of fish. I know adrian used it on rainbow fry.
Thanks for the info braddo.
Cheers Brian.
Ok there is now no sign of hydra at all and never lost a single fish no doubt panacur25 works a treat and is fish safe. Thought I might have lost the gibbiceps but not even sick.
Hope this helps if anyone has these NASTY little geezers in there tanks. :D
