Seeing Aquariums Alive photos has inspired me to possibly see if QAH members may be interested in a Gold Coast shop crawl one weekend soon (so I'll still be here for it). I know of Aquarium & Petland, Nerang,
Aquarium Warehouse and so coarse Aquariums Alive but what else would you Gold Coast hobbists rate as worth a look.
See if I can put a list together and an itinerary to take to next comittee meeting and see what they think.

[b:72dc6c2a73]Bernies Pet Barn[/b:72dc6c2a73] at Bundall. Dont stock much cichlids/fish anymore. Only go there if heap of time.

That should keep you busy. I think people may be suprised by the quality of some Gold Coast shops. Me & Brad did a tour last week of Brissie Stroes. Southside was great!!! Northside well apart from a couple, umm, hmm, yeh.

Hey Linda I've been to aquariums alive & it is well worth a visit.I've also been to aquarium warehouse at labrador & that is worth a trip as well.It's good to see what else is for sale in other shops besides the lfs.I definately would be interested.Great idea.

Linda, We have been talking about a fish shop crawl (like a pub crawl only better) I believe we will be talking about this at the nexy comittee meeting next week. I will push for making it sooner more than latter. I think the only reason we have not done it so far is the Cab show!

We've discussed it a long time back but nobody followed it up and idea just fizzled out but there are a lot of new shops down there now and I would certainly like to see them too. I know a lot of members would be keen so I'll put something on paper and trot along to meeting with it.

i would highly recomend the Q store aquarium.... it is the only place i buy my fish from .fish got gooooodd quality ... and cheep prices ... if u would like more details pm zac_attack as he is a staff member there ...............................but i would also recomend the nerang pet barn . they also have good quality fish and good prices ..

I remember last time I was there the guy let me catch my own, as he couldn't catch the 2 fish in one of the tanks what I wanted :lol:
As for the other store just mentioned, I will never buy a fish from there & haven't done so in years.

If you can't half fill up a little vial with fish tank water.
Then add a couple of drops of bromo thymol blue to the water in the vial.
Place a lid on the vial & swirlthe water around a little.
Compare the colour of the water in the vial, to the colours on a ph colour chart card.
That is the ph reading of the fish tank water.
So if you can't even do that...
I think Mitch is implying how could you possibly evaluate all that makes a good fish shop then?
Well thats how I read it. Maybe Mitch has a complaint about one you picked too.
I have heard over 50 complaints easy{I hate to think how many it really is}from one store you have mentioned. No other store comes close to that number of complaints. I can think of 4 other Aquarium stores on the Gold Coast off the top of my head{all sponsors too} with cheaper prices on goods too. {IMO}

hey guys i live on the coast and spend most my weekends when not working doing fish shop crawls and well i have a few that i class as the best i'm an african lover so for me aquarium and petland in nind street southport is the best micheal and leeann are fantastic i buy most my fish from here always great quality and well these heaps of new stock that no one else has plus they have great prices.
Aquariums alive is another great one brad is a great guy and is always willing to help he has a nice little selection of good quality fish.
Q superstore is a great shop as well lots of variety worth a look
as for the nerang petbarn they do get some nice fish in but you pay for them electric blues $28 and mainganos almost $30 to me thats a little crazy.
Beenleigh aquarium i went and had a look in today he and was quietly impressed great range of fish good prices and god quality.
Aquarium warehouse has a good range and i occasionally pop in there and pickup some good bargins never been to the labrodor store though might go there tomorrow so i hope thats helps.

BEENLEIGH AQUARIUM down freeway to helenvales turn off to get to AQUARIUM WAREHOUSE LAB from the down to Ninds st AQUARIUM & PETLAND from there back onto smith street back to the freeway and into AQUARIUMS ALIVE from there to NERANG PET BARN back onto highway to robina exit to get to Q AQUARIUM fomr there to palm beach TOUR DOUGS
then back to OXENFORD TAVERN on your way home
that would be the quickest way to see all those shops in a day

I saw the biggest pleco (over 1 foot) at a Nambour shop, & plenty of quality Cichlids!
I'd just like to say thanks to all the shops we visited today,it was nice to meet some new people & to see some of the fish in stores these days.A big thanks to Brad for the sausage sizzle & also to Doug LOVE those fronties.Also thanks to Linda, John & Keith for planning the day,it was much appreciated.

Just a quick thankyou to all the shops we visited today. Especially Aquariums Alive for providing lunch for us.
We had a really good day and I know I will make the effort to get back down to the GC more often now.
We all left about 7am this morning and some of us only arrived home around 10.30pm.
Thanks also to Doug for allowing us to look at his fish room. Its a credit to you Doug and something to be proud of. Also thank your lovely wife for the much needed cuppa.

I know that I'll be trying to get down the coast more often to see what's getting around fish wise.
I bought a few fish through out the day.
Picked-up some Albino Brichardi from Aquarium Warehouse, was very happy with that purchase.
Bought some really nice neon Gourami's from Aquariums Alive A+.
Then lastly bought some speciuos, multies and Rummy nose from Q Aquarium.
I think that our club might defineatly organise anouther crawl for later in the year.
A really good day, even Claire enjoyed it so much she didn't want to sleep at all during the day... Mind you she was out like a light on when we got to doug's and slept all the way home. Spose we all have our limit's. Still good effort for a 14 month old.
So again thanks to everyone whom took a part in the day. :D

First lot was a funny green colour,but I couldn't get my hands on a cross.I used something better than holy water,fish tank water.(very good for cleaning tiles)What I missed the dog got.
