Post by: Luke39 on May 01, 2006, 08:29:47 PM
hi, i was thinkin of getting a pair of plecos for my 6ft, but im unsure of what is around. I want somethen with colour and that i could potentially breed in the future. I dont want to spend over $200, and i would like somethen 15cm+. 8)

Does anyone have any suggestions or know where i can get them?
Links would be great.

Thanks,
Luke

You're going to struggle to breed any plec that grows >15cm in a tank. Id recommend maybe a couple of L168/L52 - they get around the 15cm (slightly less) and will fit within your budget.

Cheers

Luke,

I think you just about cancelled out all your options !

Not too many plecos 15cm + are breedable in aquaria (if any), but you have the choice of quite a number of species a bit smaller than that that will breed in aquaria.

Aside from Bristle nose, albino B N, longfin B N, albino Longfin B N, L 168 there are not a lot of options.   Not in your price range anyway.

Start looking above the $300 mark and there is  the occasional purchase to be made.   $750 pluss might get an interesting fish.

But captive breeding is something else altogether.  We are all trying for that.!!!!!

Hey Luke. A few yrs ago, i seen some most enormous and impressive bristle nose catfish. Man, i think they averaged around 17-18cm with the biggest tipping 21cm. They actually looked like flathead. No joke- these beautys were owned by Alan from Caboolture. Never in my life could i believe an ordinary bristly could command so much respect. Picture the bristle looking like a small sailfin and you can imagine... Excellent quality from Alan.
